    Gutloading Locust

I only every feed my locusts fresh fruit and veg. Whereas crickets are omnivores, locusts are herbivores and their feeding requirements will be different. Try peppars, curly kale, rocket etc. My understanding is also that they don't need the water crystals and get their hydration from fresh...

Everyone has different dealings with glass cages. Mine is wood, with vents on both sides, with a glass front. I personally don't have any problems with the glass. Tiff (Miss Lily) also has a glass cage and doesn't have any problems. My dealings with Hugo (so these are only my experiences with...

He also staed that he is in the UK where the glass cages with screen lids are used quite successfully. My cage is in the living rom and we struggle to keep the temps up when th edoor is open, so I dread to think what it would be like if we had a screen cage. As long as there is good airflow and...

    Easy way of feeding locusts

It has always been my understanding that locusts are herbivores and therefore will only eat the live plants in an enclosure. If we aren't around for a day or so, we just put the locusts loose in his enclosure. They nibble the plants for a bit, but to be honest they don't last very long! It's...

I would stop giving her the mealworms as the chitinous shell isn't that great for them. If you wanted to add some variety I would feed her small locusts. I may be a bit thick here, but when you say "nutrobal calcium balancer and multivitamin supplement" do you mean just the nutrobal, or you...

    Male veiled digging in substate?

The shop that my first cham came from was a specialist, and yet I was still sold a female when they said it was a male, with all the wrong set up (the people serving me owned chams) and a really sick cham that died 6 weeks later of MBD and kidney failure, which they described as "unfortunate"...

    Male veiled digging in substate?

Yes, but my point was that they were told that by the previous owners, who could have easily lied rather than admit the cham was injured by their mistake. And he was still sold with substrate in the tank. Draig came from an exotics specialist remember, and look at all that happened with that. I...

    Male veiled digging in substate?

I have not seen any pictures of what a fungal infection can do, but I have seen pictures of what a burn can do and to me, who is by no means an expert, it looks like burns. Let's be honest, would you go back to the store and admit that the animal you bought there was injured because of something...

He is looking a bit happier. Also looks like he has had a few nasty burns down his back at some point. Let me just check, do you have a UVB light on him? Which kind? Do you know his supplementation schedule that he was on? What is he on now? There is a link on the "how to ask for help" section...

    Male veiled digging in substate?

What size cage was it? Did you say? And what sort of thermometer are you using? Digital or analogue? A lot aren't very accurate, so you will need to get a digital one at some point. Ours measure both humidity and temp, so that could be an option when you have a bit more spare cash. It's a lot...

    Male veiled digging in substate?

We don't ever try to take him out. If I am misting him and he walks out on to me (which is rare) we then bring him out. But it is very very occasionally that that happens. What are you using to measure your temps? Are you sure they are accurate? I also have my basking light connected to a...

    Male veiled digging in substate?

Everyone will tell you to get rid of the substrate. It can cause impaction (what type are you using?) if they ingest it. It is one of those possible things that could happen, but why take the risk? One reason he could be digging is that it is too hot and he is trying to cool down. Does he do it...

    Something in his bottom?

I can't believe you squeezed it to start with! It came out of her bum, so surely that would indicate it was likely to smell?! :D You do make me laugh with your dedication to your chams :)

    Male veiled digging in substate?

My male veiled is 8.5 months old and we have had him since he was 6 weeks old. He still hates us and goes for us if we try to handle him. He only comes out when he wants to, and we try not to spend too much time walking past or looking into his cage as they don't tend to like it as a species...

    Male veiled digging in substate?

We keep the basking spot of our male veiled at about 30C with lower down at about 22-25C. I also wouldn't bother with meal worms as they aren't a great feeder.

    fake indoor trees,any ideas?

I went to my local homebase last week and they had loads of plants in, including large ficus' for about £40. I would think considering the cost of fake plants, you may as well get a real plant. Then if they start eating the leaves (which Hugo does on his free range ficus) you don't have to worry.
