Exactly why did this person say this? Was there a specific reason? Were they wild caught? IF so, get a fecal done on them and see if they have any internal parasites. Are you going to handle them every second of every day? If so, don't. I find this notion a bit disturbing. It takes...

If you want to raise mealworms; take adults and but them in a tub/bucket (not huge, sort of like a large dog food bowl) fill with chicken feed. They will molt and become black beetles. Feed the beetles scraps of food (veggie/fruti) like you do for dubai and crickets. Soon the cycle of life...

My first guess would be a Common House Gecko or Hemidactylus frenatus. There a several varities. Take a look at this website to see if it's helpful. www.wildherps.com Hope this helps and good luck with him/her.
