    I've just become a Chameleon step-dad

I've never done this before, so I'm sure the multitude of things I haven't considered is endless. My wife has done more research than I have when it comes to plants. I do believe ferns are in the plan. She already has 6-8 plants ready to go in this thing. I'll have to check my list one more...

    Bioactive Mentor

Where did you find that driftwood? Assuming by your location you sourced it from nature yourself? I think I'm a tad too far from the beach here in Atlanta and can't find any nice big pieces like that.

All of the attached moss is dried. It’s purely for aesthetic purposes. We just used a little bit of the flukers green moss to break up some of the dead brown look. We incorporated 7-8 planting locations into the open tops of the cork rounds. It’s hard to see in the pics, but most of those cork...

    Bio active enclosure for panther

I’m new to this as well. Been on here for guidance building my wife’s nosy be a vivarium from an old entertainment center armoire whatchamacallit we found on Craigslist. Here is my thread: https://www.chameleonforums.com/threads/ive-just-become-a-chameleon-step-dad.172710/ I also came across...

Yeah. Shower drain into a bucket for now. I could fairly easily plumb it into the basement, but we aren’t completely sure about the placement, so I’m holding off on that.

    A couple of MistKing questions

I bought the basic one directly from mist king and it came with a single nozzle and a dual nozzle. I see no need to upgrade anything. The pump is more than sufficient.

Thanks. I’ve still got a lot of work to do. Cable management is going to be a headache. Gotta trim the windows, screen the doors and plumb the mister. That’s about the time she’ll want to take over. She likes the dirt and plants and whatnot.

This is my wife’s chameleon and this is now her view from her side of the bed... She loves it and I love that it makes her happy.

Well I took your advice on the basking light. Removed that interior keyless lamp and routed out two holes on top to inset two can lights. Gives the inside a much cleaner look, but outside it’s a little unsightly. The unit is 7 feet tall, so you don’t see them when you’re standing near the Viv...

Dang. Do you run all 4 with uvb bulbs? I run a 61” quad t5 above my reef tank, but with a mix of different bulbs based on the needs of the inhabitants.

Yes, this is what I was wondering about. Thank you.

    It’s a single 36” t5 uvb and a 36” led bar. The enclosure is 42” wide, 50” tall and 22” deep.

    I've just become a Chameleon step-dad

That leaves me with another question. Is there such a thing as too much light? I already have two 36” lights up there, one for uvb and an led to stimulate plant growth. Is the third bulb for basking a non issue? Should I consider just a heat emitter in that one? I figure if they can sit out in...

Question regarding distilled/RO water and misting system. (Distilled not bad for arboreal reptiles?)

I produce large quantities of RODI water for my reef tank, so when I heard the nonsense about not using it for animals I of course did a few minutes of googling and posted the question here. There seems to be no science to back up that claim, so I ultimately concluded that the idea that water...

I appreciate the input. unfortunately, the top of the cabinet is flush with the top of the crown molding. The extra space this creates to hide things is on the inside. If I raise the light, it will be visible sitting on top. I’ll come up with a solution though. Not that big a deal.

Well, the light is almost a foot from the wall. However with the width of the bulb and wall decor factored in, It does put the bulb only about 8” from the wall. I wanted to avoid having anything visible outside the unit, but I could cut a larger hole, screen it and use a can light above it. I’ll...

I think maybe the pictures make it look closer than it really is. I’ll definitely heed your warning and proceed with caution though.

The way it’s laid out, he shouldn’t be able to get closer than 6”-8” from them. If somehow he can, I’ll build a frame and screen it.

Unhappy with cage? Or just extremely friendly/social Chameleon?

When mine is basking he prefers to be on the perfectly horizontal dowel rods we installed at various levels. It’s not the most aesthetically pleasing thing there is, but it’s effective.

    I've just become a Chameleon step-dad

Been busy not working over the holidays, so haven’t had much time for the project, but we made some good progress today. Got the cork bark laid out, foamed it all in, shaped the foam with an angle grinder then siliconed it all with sphagnum. Can’t wait for it to dry so I can blow off the excess...
