I think the enclosure looks good :) If you wanted you could add yet another plant in the front to fill in the right side but for the most part it is looking good. Some people add a flourescent plant light to help their plants grow (the hibiscus are especially hard to keep indoors) and as long...
I use the same milk jug feeder for all of my adult chams. I usually free range the crickets just so that they get to "hunt" but I use the feeder for superworms and roaches. The only thing that i did different was I also cut the bottom out and glued screen into it so that any water that got...
I have seen people plant their plants directly in the bottom of the cage but I don't think that I would recommend it for a novice chameleon keeper. You would really have to watch for impaction and drainage would be a problem without hydroton and charcoal or a really good drainage system. I am...
I know that I have to remove the chameleons. I was just wondering what amount of time I need to keep them out of the apartment for. Calling an exterminator won't help really unless they were the ones spraying and using their products. She is just planning on using rid spray that she bought...
My landlord is wanting to spray the apartment building for spiders and flies. She knows that I keep chameleons and I tried to talk her out of spraying my apartment, but she insisted. What should I do about my chameleons? Will covering their cages work? I don't think it will but I don't know...
You should probably remove the perlite from the soil or at the very least cover the plant with a layer of perlite free soil before putting them in the cage. I have seen chameleons (especially babies and veileds) shoot at and eat perlite which I am sure is not at all good for them and could...
The bulb that you are showing the link to will not provide the UVB that your chameleon needs for calcium absorption. You need 2 bulbs with a chameleon. A flourescent UVB tube and an incandesant basking light. For the UVB tube you should be able to pick one up at a petstore. The one that you...
As gross as it is, crickets do often go for the poop and urates. Be sure to remove any uneaten feeders to prevent them from eating the poop and then being eaten by your chameleon. This can be especially harmful if your chameleon has parasites as it can make the parasite load even heavier.
In my pygmie tank I used a layer of organic top soil and then a layer of coconut fiber. These allow pretty good drainage but retain enough moisture that the humidity stays pretty high. You can actually OVER mist pygmies a lot more often than under mist them :)
Have you checked his temperatures? He definitely looks dehydrated and I would worry more about this than the not eating for the moment. Have you tried some long showers? Fluker's makes a product called Repti Aid that is great for chameleons that aren't eating. It also helps combat...
I like to buy the dried grapevine wreaths that they sell at walmart or craft stores for just a few bucks.
If you soak them in the tub in hot water for a few hours they become pretty pliable. Then you can bend them however you want and pin them to the cage walls with cable ties.
Lobster roaches breed EXTREMELY fast with absolutely no effort on your part. They are easy to gutload and have a great meat to shell ratio.
Having said that.. they suck as feeders :) They are super fast.. you can't catch them.. they can climb glass, plastic, anything.. you name it.. they...
What species/age cham do you have?
What are your basking spot temperatures? What are your ambient temperatures? What are you using to measure these temperatures?
Is your basking bulb at least 5 or 6 inches away from the highest point on your chameleon when he is sitting under the bulb?
If the water has a smell to it, then you likely have a bacteria problem. Aiming your dripper into the plant sounds like a good idea but if the plant is sitting in water all day it will develop root rot, which also has a pretty pungent smell. A lot of keepers who do not have a drainage system...
What makes you think that he has MBD? Has he seen a vet? Chameleons will hang from the top of their cage to get closer to the basking and UVB lights if they do not have a perch that is sufficiently close enough. Have you tried checking your temperatures? Do you have plenty of foliage in the...
Dave, you should make and sell the plexiglass (i am guessing that is the material) drainage trays. I would love to have about 5 of them but I am just not that crafty!
It is difficult to tell someone what the best wattage bulb for their enclosure is because every enclosure is different and other things play a factor like room temp and drafts.
Your best bet is to get a thermometer with a probe or a temperature gun and take multiple readings over a couple of...
I wouldn't necessairly return the basking light fixture. The ones made specifically for reptiles have a ceramic socket that is rated for very high, constant temperatures. The automotive/shop ones, while work I am sure, aren't made for as constant use as the ceramic ones. The shop ones often...
