Tryme.. be very careful using the desk lamp as your basking light. They are not made to be ran 12-14 hours and many are only rated to be used with up to a 40 light bulb. The high temperatures may eventually cause it to melt if it has platic parts or create a fire hazard. Your best bet is a...
You need to put her in the bucket and leave her alone.
For AWHILE.. if she notices you while she is digging, she will stop. It is gonna take longer than 2 hours to get her to dig and be comfortable and lay.
Start her a hole.. put her in it and just.. walk away. I know it is hard.. but...
I had a veiled female that made a little hooty noise when she was aggravated at me getting her out of her cage.. i could almost feel her do it more than i could hear it.. is it kind of like that?
I often buy a grapevine wreath at Wal-Mart or Michael's craft store. They have various sized ones and each individual wreath has various sizes of vines. I soak then in very hot water over night and the next day they are very pliable and easy to work with. Then I put them in my cage, secure...
Dog or cat food isn't the best thing to feed to your roaches if you plan on feeding them to your chameleons. It contains bacteria that your dog or cat could handle, but your chameleon can not.
To provide protein to my roaches I throw in a hard boiled egg occasionally.
You also do not want to have the bulb directly in your cage once you build the new one. Resting on top is fine as long as your chameleon can get withing 6 inches of the bulb. The screen will block some rays but aluminum screen doesn't block enough to make risking burns from having the light...
Are the roaches that you ordered going to be used as feeders?
If so, I wouldn't recommend using dog or cat food as a food source.. even just to feed the ones that aren't yet going to be fed to your cham. Here is a post from a previous thread that I wrote about dog food:
Dog food is pretty...
In my opinion, she does look gravid. I have a female veiled that has layed 2 clutches of eggs and never once took on the traditional gravid coloring and only had the hugely swollen belly :)
When you put her in the trash can are you making sure to never let her see you watching her? Do you...
Notice how the chameleon in the first picture is looking all of the way to the right? This is extending the skin around the eye and making it appear completely smooth. In the second picture the eye is looking directly at the camera and so you can see the wrinkles around the eye.
A...
6 inches away from the basking light is actually great if your temperatures are correct. If your chameleon can get to close to the basking light he or she will eventually get a nasty burn on the casque or along the spines of the back. These burns are nasty, I am sure painful, leave scars and...
On a couple of my larger enclosures I use a second flouescent "plant light" like the ones you can get at walmart. They are bright and definitely help illuminate the cage more, they are cheap and they are good for the live plants. I just get one the same size as my UVB bulb and run two fixtures...
Has he been drinking for you? Have you been providing him several long (5+ minutes) misting sessions a day?
Do you have a uvb light with no glass or plastic barrier?
Sometimes it just takes a while for these guys to settle in and be comfortable enough to eat :) I would try to leave him...
I am pretty sure that Brad R was using an almost identical storage container.
For my lobster roaches (who definitely CAN climb glass and plastic) I use a 10 gallon aquarium with a tight fitting slide in screen lid. I put a 3 inch band of vasoline around the top. The roaches (even climbing...
How long have you had your chameleon? It is very odd for a chameleon to not sleep. Are you maybe just not recognizing it?
All of my chameleons fall asleep right before or shortly after their lights go off. What kind of lighting schedule do you have your chameleon on? My lights come on in...
No offense meant at all but your male looks a little dehydrated. See how the two bulges in his casque are sunk in and his eye is a little sunk in? Those are both signs of dehydration.
Maybe try a couple of long showers this week and add some extra misting sessions. The showers usually...
