I gut load my crickets with carrots, dandelion and spinach (from mixed greens salad mix), cucumber, and the occasional lemon or lime wedge. So hopefully he gets enough vitamin A from the carrot crickets.
He spends a lot of time perched on his tree, and his body ends up being about 4 inches away...
I knew about impaction issues. I didn't really worry about it because he never eats crickets from the ground. He's kind of lazy and waits on top of the tree or now waits on the new branches and eats them when they climb up the screen. If I ever notic him eating from the ground, I'll get rid of...
He got territorial and would puff up, hiss, and open his mouth and pretend that he was going to bite us. It only happened a few times and it was when we were "invading his territory" by sticking our hands in the cage to handle him. But it didn't last long and he is very friendly now. I normally...
Yup. Mine does it too. Typical silly veiled behavior if you ask me! Just be careful as she gets older. Herbert started out on the door, then moved to the top of the cage area. Then the top of the cage area turned into anywhere he could reach from the top and sides of the cage. Now he expanded...
I vote veiled because I heard that they're a little easier to take care of/more tolerant of lower humidity. My suggestion is to get a baby and raise it. Then you can put in the time and effort to hand feed it and try to handle it from the start. It was great to watch Herbert grow up into the big...
The dragon ledges are really awesome. Just checked out their site. They are actually designed for my reptibreeze cage too. I will definitely go that route if I can't make my fishing line work. Thanks for the recommendation, as I had no idea that they existed.
I don't think they would work on the fine mesh screen that I have. The holes are just large enough for fishing line. Those rubber bands with micro hooks would be ideal, but I can probably make finishing line work.
It's the reptisun 5.0 tropical uvb. (Cfl = compact fluorescent). I'll add some more cross branches from the back to the front. The problem that I'm having is attaching branches to a screen. I used 20lb test fishing line for the branches on the upper left. I guess I could try using that on the...
-24"x24"x48" reptibreeze screen cage
-Zoo med dual dome light with cfl (coil) 5.0 tropical uvb and 100 watt daytime blue uva for the upper basking area over the tree
-12" Zilla dome with 150w black bulb for the lower basking area (vines on the left)
-All artificial plants/tree
-exoterra dripper...
Yeah but not a wholelot of outside time, he gets some natural light while climbing on the sliding screen door. But I have a 5.0uvb and 100w uva bulb. When it's time to change the uvb, think that I should go 10.0?
I use repticalcium without d3 for the regular feedings. I was looking at different supplements and bought reptivite for the d3 bimonthly feedings. How do you guys feel about these numbers? Is 10,390 IU d3 enough for the twice a month feedings for a 10 month old male veiled?
My bad. I know that they don't look the same. What I meant was that we share some of the same parts and that these parts in our brain evolved over millions of years, but came from when reptiles ruled the planet. Thanks for correcting me (y)
I agree that they don't have the same emotional capacity as humans due to the lack of the limbic system, but we do share some of the most basic ones like fear and aggression. Parts of our human brain still resemble the brains our reptilian forefathers. These include the brain stem (pons and...
Get the vet to show you when you take him in tomorrow morning. I'm sure that it'll be one of the first things that they'll do during the checkup. You can also look at the one picture that "veiled Cham owner" posted at the beginning of this thread. Let me know what the vet says.
I haven't had to deal with sickness and health issues, but I have read a lot threads on here talking about them. If I were in your position, I'd start with the basics. Check the mouth area for signs of mouth rot or any other injuries. I've read that they can sometimes be bitten inside the mouth...
Herbert also falls asleep on us at night. If it's after 9pm and we turn off the lights, he'll slowly lower himself, curl his tail, turn his normal bright sleeping colors, and he's out. I think that he enjoys the body heat. He actually backed up into my wife's sleeve one time and she pulled it up...
It looks like he wants out of his cage. My veiled does the same thing. If I see him doing laps or clinging to the front of his cage, I just open the door and he always comes out. Sometimes he'll go to the top of his cage and hang out up there and other times he'll go explore the living room and...
