Probably the only option was to go metal halide prior to LED, or lots of T5 bulbs. I should've kept all my reef lighting when I quit but the bulbs would've been no good anyway. Probably too big too....MH bulbs for chams....that's a funny one.
How about the "quality" of light? Wouldn't LEDs be much better for planted setups? I only ask because I could care less for the electricity bill and it's always best to optimize setup. Also, most of my chams are now montane species as well, so it might actually be better than using huge...
Really? Very average looking veild I think :). He's actually really calm, but that's my buddy's arm and I took the picture with a panther sitting on my shoulder so he was a bit pissed.
I think it looks closer to 5 months than 4. Can you get a picture of its rear heel? Also, it doesn't look gravid to me. It may be suffering from MBD, although I've never had a cham with this condition, maybe someone with more experience can comment.
Tried it once but Lathis is right. I just couldn't get them to produce much heat. They do heat up at the base of the fixture, but it seems the light they emit just won't warm anything it shines on.
My chams love mantis. I've never hatched them before so I'm not entirely sure how to rear the young. They are insectivores so they'll probably eat small crickets and stuff like that. They are also cannibalistic so you will have to find out about that too. Not sure at what age they will start...
These are pretty much my thoughts. Although I don't have as much experience as many in these forums, I have had my share of problems. That said, it's hard to ignore advice from experienced keepers on these forums which I've gleaned most of my knowledge from.
I do want to try adding substrate...
I would have to agree with this post. I haven't read every post but I believe the argument falls under personal morals. Unfortunately, everyone has a different view on this, but to the best of my knowledge, this shipment has been approved by CITES. If it hasn't or, if it's fraudulent, the...
Can you provide a picture of her hind legs? We can determine sex by looking for tarsal spurs that only males have. Also, a full profile picture of her so we can estimate an age. If she is only 2-3 months old she can't be gravid.
