How long do you expect him to leave his cage on a daily basis? I would have both a basking and uvb bulb there regardless.

I don't know how you would fight the urge to feed it to your chameleon....lol.

Sorry for your loss. Any time we free range outside we are taking a risk. I've lost animals outside, and even had a carpet climb down the side of my building (I live on the 11th floor). These guys are fearless.
