Basic rule of thumb is ... if you can smell them, they aren't happy. Chams love their environment clean, and other than them having parasites or an illness, their pooh really doesn't smell much (clean it up every day though);)
Welcome to the forums by the way!
What type of chameleon you after?
I know you are anxious, but try and answer the following questions IN DETAIL so the expert keepers have a better chance of helping you and your little buddy. Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage construction (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
Lighting - What brand, model...
The host laughing at buddy with the wonky voice is one of my favorites! He sounds like a puppet.

Once you get the system started it's very easy.
There are plenty of resources available on the web ... this it the one I used as a template! http://skylab.org/~chugga/cricket/
Hope you like the sound of "camping" :D
Good luck.
Oh ... My ... Gaud!
I haven't been to fringe theater in WAY too long!
Harry, you crack me up.
Hey Fate, if you like REALLY exotic young (like your daughter's age) women, try and find a Hungarian dating site ... or maybe Armenian?! :D
Honestly, this was the best waste of...
Actually the opposite. Too many silkies and the poo becomes runny. No worries ... she's eating!
Didn't notice if you were supplementing with calcium WITHOUT D3. (gotta watch the D3 buildup and subsequent poisoning or calcium won't process and MBD will occur)
Good luck!
Just out of curiosity, did the previous owner (or you) use some type of substrate (like wood chips) on the floor of the enclosure?
If so, there could be a chance of being impacted, which would be VERY serious.
If you can manage to get him out of the viv without losing an arm the warm soak, as...
Merus ...
Don't be selfish ... LET'S SEE SOME PICTURES! (Sorry for yelling)
Ambient in the low 70's is fine. Night-time drop need not be as low as the 50s but shouldn't hurt them. (they do love a cool sleep)
What is the humidity level? If you don't have a Hydrometer, you should get one...
Mississauga is right outside of Toronto (you could see the TO airport landing strip from the EXPO)
That's Toronto, Ontario.
Canada
Never let it be said keepers don't have feelings for their Chameleons. When KentonK picked up Bluie from Harry, I witnessed him go all misty! Two years is a...
Just take a walk around your neighborhood and take a few from each tree. Fall is coming here in Canada, so people don't care if I grab an armload (saves them raking them up in a few weeks):D
I've had success freezing them in big bags. (they just dry out a little faster than fresh)
Welcome to the forum Dori, there's lots to learn here and tons of support.
First of all go to http://raisingkittytheveiledchameleon.blogspot.com/ and read it very carefully. Brad Ramsey, a senior member here, has everything you NEED to know about raising a veild chameleon, on this link...
How about a Hog-nosed? They are pretty cool. Puff up, flatten out like a cobra, and even play dead. They appear really mean but are timid and harmless. Have sort of a "rattler" look.
Geeze ... I don't have personal experience with Veilds, but our little Meru Jackson lives in a 6 foot Flex (I think it's 260 gallon) and enjoys it immensely. Can't imagine her SHARING (selfish thing)!
Now veilds are about 4 or 5 times the size, and squeezing 2 into an enclosure less than half...
I am boggled by the amount of work and research you have done while simply "looking after" a friends chameleon. The expense of the vet trip etc suggests you are more responsible then the true owner. (are you going to ask for it when they return?)
How long are they away anyway...
