That is true, some species will eat birds, lizards in the wild on the rare occasion but too much protein given in captivity is really hard on the kidneys.
I personally didn't cut any hole in the top of my meshed cage. You just have to play with the switch to get it at the right amount of drips you want. I like to have one drip go every 15-20 seconds.
You could put it in the oven at a low temp for about 20 mins but keep an eye on it.
Also might want to give it a scrub with a 3:1 bleach/water mix.

Given most grubs will eat the shoot tissue of turf grass I would er on the side of caution as they could be highly exposed to pesticides.
Other then that I don't see why not.. try looking up the toxicity level of the grub or beetle online.

I use a 5.0 uvb coil bulb with my montane species. It was worked fine for me and he moves in and out of it throughout the day. He is fairly small and in a either medium or large repti-breeze, not sure lol.

Come to think of it..you can also try looking at a sporting goods store or fishing store like Bass Pro for a "game processing table". Its just a simple fold out sturdy plastic table with sink in it with a hose and bucket attached. Pretty much ideal, the store near me sells them for 69.99
