Sexing nymphs is near impossible, but I'm sure it can be done. Adults can be sexed by comparing a bunch of them together. Females are bigger, rounder, and more of their abdomen protrudes past their wings. In addition, males will raise their wings up to show dominance/attract females. :)
I've had a lobster roach colony for about 3-4 years now. I originally got them to feed my mantid hobby, but naturally use them to feed my pygmies. I can't stand crickets, noisy and smelly. These roaches rock because they require so little care. At one point I didn't need any roaches for a...
I have a SLR camera (and know how to use it). I just was thinking about others who wouldn't have a camera with the capability to take close ups, or have $400 laying around to get a camera that could. ;)
If you haven't noticed, I like taking pictures of my trio. :D Here's some new ones that I've produced recently.....
wiping eye in the water
I think she is gravid. :D But I don't feel any eggs...... (although I could be doing it wrong, they are my first chams)
The...
lol, same problem I had. You're right, in AV you can only adjust aperture, and in TV its only shutter, not both. In manual you will be able to do this. ;)
What setting do you have your camera set to? You will want to switch it to manual mode to be able to change everything (the dial on the top right of the camera). When I first got my camera (5 years ago) I didn't know you had to change modes. I drove myself crazy figuring that out. lol I...
No problem. :) I do want to mention that the shutter speed in the second pic is a lot faster than it needs to be. I was actually taking shots of my chams eating. I had the camera set up for speed and didn't feel like changing the settings.
Not bad. ESP, since your new. :) I wouldn't use a setting of ISO any higher than 200 for normal shooting when aiming for a large depth of field. The higher your ISO is, the more "noisy" the photo will be, but its not really noticeable until 800 or so. Your best friend for increasing...
Nice pics. :) I really want to get a 100mm macro for my Rebel XL. I've been using my 55mm for a long time.
One suggestion. If you increase your F-stop (aperture), say to 15-20, your depth of field will really increase. Of course when you do this you will need to slower your...
I got some of my plants for my tank from blackjungle.com. Awesome place and wonderful (and almost overwhelming) selection. Keep in mind when ordering plants that they are a little small when shipped to you. Kinda hard to ship big plants, but this also allows them to grow into the tank instead...
"When you take all the clothes out of two dresser drawers, line the edges with vaseline, and breed roaches in them because it is easy access." :D:D
(this applied to my mantid hobby first, but now it applies to my chams) I also have a dorm sized fridge full of things related to chams/mantids. :)
ROFL! :D I got the two plants your talking about (the ones in the corners) from the museum. I was told that they are water chestnut trees. They actually do very well in tanks, and if you clip the top off, they really branch out. I'll be doing that once they reach the top of the tank. ;)
I used pressed cork slabs. They can be bought from joshsfrogs.com, but they are not cheap! Being a worker at the local museum I got them free along with the light, and half of the plants in the tank. :D
I actually decided to put the isopods (aka rollie pollies) and the spring tails in last...
You bet I did. :p Great article. Thanks for reminding me about the sticks, I knew i forgot something. There are some perfect grape vines growing in the woods behind my house.
I also want to add that I went about this very "cheaply". Including the chameleons, I only spent about...
