Just how cool of ambient temps can montane species comfortably thrive in?
I moved my jack groups. The ambient ROOM temp is about 65 F, this temp is rather constant and does not fluctuate greatly.
Cage day temps- the lower levels of their cages are sitting around 65, the higher levels read...
Ok, on the other side of the extreme, just what kind of low ambient temps can Trioceros and Kinyongia's handle?
Moved my jack groups into another room. They are sitting in the high 60's to low 70's ambient, of course with a much higher hot spot. I saw an almost imediate behavior and color...
Thanks for the input Cain, love your thread.
I am thinking I will setup a hardcore montane room in the next year or two.
But for now, I need something to tide me over. You really don't think I could reliably breed pardalis in a room sitting at 85 day temp and 75-78 night temp?
Just to...
What and how many animals do you want to feed with these?
Dubias are great and produce well with the proper conditions.
I would use a medium sized tupperware tub with a large square cut in the lid, fill the hole with a glued in piece of screen mesh.
No substrate needed, they will create...
Not to call this guy out, he is obviously doing something right with his animals.
Just curious how he can raise these animals with no apparent lighting. How would be even provide basking and UV exposure in such setups? (look towards the end of the page)...
What species might you recommend for setting up in half a snake room for breeding chameleons?
Something that will do well in a room that may drift in the mid 80's day temp, mid to high 70's (or low 80's) night temp.
My only thoughts as of yet are Nosy Be's, as I think F. pardalis will do...
A "Montane room" quickly became an obvious factor if I wish to truely work with these types of animals.
The basking notes mentioned here are interesting, as I was curious as to just what some people where getting away with. Although some of these species may tolerate higher temps, I would...
These are great discussions guys, this is likely one of my favorite cham groups. I am likely going to bring in ten or twenty of these and do my best to work with them, however, I still have a lot to learn with montane chameleons. I am going to have to setup a cooled frame shed in one of my snake...
Hello,
I recently have been drawn in to working with chameleons on a serious level, let alone some of the montane species (i.e. animals of the "fischeri complex" and jackson's subgroup). However, I fear that trying to keep these animals may be difficult in my snake rooms. My snake rooms sit...
