I have been trying reduce the amount of water usage my system is using. I have 2 cages with two nozzles in one (black) and 4 in the other(red). My system does two things. first it provides water for the chams and the other is to keep the temps down in the afternoon time...
I go through about...
I agree with dodolah. But I also have one more question. How long have you had your cham....because if you just got him it may take a while for him to acclimate to his new home. if you have had him for awhile and his water intake has suddenly dropped off, you may consider a vet visit or listing...
My female jackson gravid now about 4 weeks, just yeasterday let a poo go with very orange urates. This is the first time this has happened as she gets adequate water from 7 - 5 min misting cycle per day. (lots of cycles to help control temp level in viv).
She has otherwise had perfectly...
I would imagine that a virus is vulnerable to UVC, However because of the hard outer protective layer what will make the difference is the exposure time. For example to sterilize water the recommendation of boiling time is 15min, sterilization from steam is 3 min...
that depends on your local water quality...
If you can't find that information then you are better off with some kind of bottled or filtered water.

I have both also, but I do check the plants about every month to see if they are starting get brittle. The UV light will tend to degrade plastic.
I would think that a watching for color changes and giving the plastic a squeeze here and there woud be a good check for this?
What do you...
.
Dumb question,
Do you feel that the height is important?
My chams sit on my 2nd floor balconey, but about 20" off the floor.
There isn't any foot traffic in the area except for when I go out to check and feed them.
thanks
OPI
Yup agreed.
If you do add a bowl, you are going backwards and potentially setting yourself up for more head aches. Watch the urates and that will tell you if your cham is getting enough water.

anything other than white is sign of dehydration. you may want to increased your misting freq and durations....
As far as the habba mist...What I have read on forum is that it is a piece of junk. and A fire hazzard.
Take a look at this system. Made from common hardware items...
most everyone here has used the poly...I haven't seen any one try the teak oil...I can't tell you from any of my experiences either. I think I would stick with some kind of exterior grade poly.
BTW Nice viv so far...

My experience with Linseed oil, ( mostly with trying to weather proof a door) would say no to finishing a viv. sooner or later it dries out and you will need to refinish the viv again. some of the web sites that i have checked say that it will encourage mold and mildew and also encourage the...
that was one of the problems that I had too,
I added a misting cycle for each hour of the hottest parts of the day (Here it's about 12 to 3).
the Vivs stay in the high 80's or cooler.
OPI
My chams stay outside all the time, out of direct sunlight most of the time. When it is shady where they are the UVB stays pretty high, 40 to 50s ( solar meter) on the really sunny days it is evey higher.
aren't the UVB waves reflectable?

I have been using hydrogen peroxide as a disinfecting agent. So far it has been working out fine, but I haven't tried to culture anything...
Dave
have you found any benefit of using one over the other.?
I like Hydrogen peroxide as once it reacts, the by product is Water. With the others...
Cool...what a christmas present for your cham...LOL....One more thing to look for. I don't know of a specific brand or type but there are anti-fungal/mold paints or sealer out there. that may help provided that it isn't toxic to your cham also.
Oh yeah one more idea would be to periodcally...
I think that you Cham will be OK...But the vet visit is still a good Idea. I would imagine the mold was confined to the under surface of the viv where the air flow and dark, moist, stagnant air persisted. The upper surface where your Cham lived had good adequate air flow. Good exposure to light...
