Ants...
It was suggested to me by a friend to use uncooked grits as an chemical-free way to get rid of ants. It takes awhile, at least a few days but they will eat the grits, and take some back to the nest, the grits swell, the ants explode. Apparently thats how they get rid of fire ants in...

This is a good one that I've used. Keeps me from having to re-pot my plants simply because the soil is drained. Now I only have to re-pot when they outgrow the...
wow.
I just read this whole thread, and I must say I got a hell of a laugh out of it.
The funniest thing to me being the rabbit trails it went off on...like eggs at roots of trees and whether or not to use substrate...when neither really answered the question. No matter what happens, people...
protected species...
yeah, you might want to be careful mentioning that you feed mantis to your pets. they are in fact a protected species in the US, and garden centers sell them as pest control to be put into gardens, not as pet food...its my understanding that you can be fined a hefty little...
crickets are hard to cup feed...just because theyre jumpers... but it might be possible, i've noticed a few crickets get "trapped" in the cup I give Ember her phoenix worms in. They must not know they can jump out as easily as they jumped in. its only 3.5 inches deep. I would say its really...
mealworms...no, not really a good addition to a chameleon's diet. Although if he really likes them, then he will love phoenix worms. They have great nutritional value without dusting or gutloading, and look similar enough to get him started. My female panther loves them and comes running when...
main source of humidity..
I would in no way ever suggest a humidifier as a main source of humidity. It would never do the job. Even with humidifiers running all day, the humidity remains about 50% in the cages until they are misted, which takes it up to 70-75% for an hour or 2 if we're lucky...
The steam really doesn't heat up the room as much as you would think. only by a degree or so. It cools quickly upon leaving the machine, so really only the area right next to the humidifier remains warmer. I run 2 of them in my living room, because we have several snakes in there, and its never...
the warm mist humidifiers heat the water, so it is steam, not mist. that kills any bacteria that might be in the water. thats why they recommend warm-mist for babies rooms. cool-mist simply creates fog by using ultrasonic technology, aka sound waves.
humidifiers...
Personally, I don't like the ultrasonic humidifiers for chameleons. They don't raise the humidity enough, and they are basically bacteria-filled pools. Not to mention that you have to buy new ceramic discs for them all the time. If you go with a humidifier, I suggest the warm...
