I took them all myself, so thanks.
I know there is a forum like that, but I honestly thought this is more a "general photography thing". A combination of the two would have been great.
I thought it would be nice with a thread where you can show pics of all kinds of herps, pets or field-photos.
There is no proper category for it in the "general photography", and I think there might be more people than me who have a combined interest of both herps and photography. Do you...
I agree, hatching some maggots (get it in fishing stores) will activate the chameleons greatly. Not the best food, but a good supplement.
I usually put them in a old soda bottle with some airholes and a rolled up newspapres sheet, and let them metamorphize in there. Its easier to "dose" them...
Are you talking about a veiled?
If so, I would say yes. The value of their ability to eat greens is really exaggerated. In nature it is a great way to get more moisture into your system, but I highly doubt the greens/fruits are having any major nutritional benefit. I honestly believe that they...
No, that is not a logical conclusion as the one thing that is working is the drinking. Its also a common way of giving ones chameleon water.
I would not worry just yet, 4 days and drinking is not that bad.
Is she normal in every other way?
Was the egg laying "normal", she finished normal...
I think the "badness" are well evened out in some cases, like if you take the chameleon out in the sun, the natural sunlight will bennefit the chameleon more than the handling will hurt it. Its hard to measure though.
Well if it flash you its brightest colors when you are handling it, I would not read it as being happy. It is not bad as in black "stressed to the brink of death"-color of course, but it is still a excited state that is a level above being relaxed, so to speak.
I just wanted to point out that...
I would say most chameleons hate being misted. Maybe not. They can find it scary and often get defensive.
It helps if you use hot water. If youre picky, you should heat cold water and not use hot water from the pipes.
The mist gets cooled down really fast, so use varmer water that one...
There is no way that could be a reallity Im afraid, the selective breeding that give that effect in our mor common animals have taken thousands of years. Reptiles in captivity are in most aspects still "wild".
The reason you will see a less defensive behaviour in young chameleons is due to...
I looked into that a while back, and all reputable scientific consensus say its a small monkey, stripped of its skin for the purpose of making this hoax.
The sad part is that the animal is said to have been alive, put in a "bear trap". The suffering must have been unimaginable.
Its kind of lika asking if you like cake. I simply dont know.
You have to check the temps in your specific room and make that judgement yourself. I would not recommend mats and such, its too ineffective. Adding a few spots here and there have worked better for me.
You CAN have a "backup lamp", but I seldom use one. The nights can get really cold in some locals of Yemen, calyptratus have been found in night temps just over freezing degrees. I do not keep them out in that kind of cold though. A lot of montane species will encounter cold nights in nature.
If not bred since last lay, then slim to none.
Its not too good to have her dropping eggs without digging. You could try the bucket method, putting her in a big bucket with digging material when you see her start test-digging.
