It depends on the cage. In some cases I can just fit them perfectly so I dont need to fasten them in any way, in wooden terrariums i have used screws... In glass terrariums I gave used glue/silikon. Use your imagination.
I dont know the english word for it, but these should be fine for mesh...
Ah, the american germ phobia.
What could possibly get your chameleon in trouble from using material taken from the outside? Sure, you should check to see that you dont bring an ant colony back inside, but other than that I dont see any need for disinfection.
Holy smoke, I have not seen an article written on type writer in a long time.
This is a very old article and i dont know if it has been published anywere.
The reason I used words like "recent studies" is just because of the different ideas that have gone back and forward. For a while it was...
The analogy is that just because you witness an occurrence and an effect, the one does not have to be the reason for the other. Saying that they "can most certainly retain sperm" just because there are fertile eggs is not a correct way to explain it.
And yes, Im questioneing the way the eggs...
Im talking about light, just light and nothing but the light...
If you need more heat, you get a spot. If you need more UV, you get a tube/lamp.
I would recommend daylight tubes around 6500K. A few compact "low energy" bulbs/tubes is a great addition on top of that.
More plants is good, but...
Its a matter of nutrition. There are two things commonly addressed, their hard chitin(?) outer layer and their fattiness.
Larvae is often fat due to the fact that their "job" is to collect energy for metamorphosis. Fat is a common way to store energy.
I would say it needs more light. We often forget, or simply do not know, that even the brightest of enclosures are not even as bright as a cloudy day in nature. An average bulb gives away a few hundred lux, the outside is probably more than 100 000 lux...
The cage looks great, I have seen...
But that is not a scientific way of looking at it. With the same logic, I can claim that my coffee maker is what makes the sun rise every morning. The sun rise just after I switch it on, so it must most certainly be so?
Im not questioning the fact that they do not need to mate every time to...
I had a female quite a few years ago who pushed out huge numbers of eggs too. I knew better than to over feed her and actually had her on a strict diet, yet the first infertile batch was 83 eggs, the next (fertile) batch was 103eggs and then it went down after that.
I hope I never get a...
Yes, we hear things, so have I and I have also seen the end result with my own eyes. There sure is a number of fertile eggs in the next few batches, but in my experience they are not of the same "quality". Its impossible to know if that is due to maternal effects from the first batch or...
It that really true? Retaining sperm has been shown to be quite difficult, is there any good recent studies on this subject? It would be interesting to know the biological process of this, I honestly dont know what the latest news on this subject is.
Of course a line on a map wont matter to animals.
I have been thinking about how it seems to be important to divide animals into different species/subspecies lately, more so when I read Hendersons article on Corallus caninus being divided into C. caninus and C. batesii.
So, should I take it...
The James/Wells/Lopéz gutload in the adcham-link is a great one. I honestly saw a huge effect on my chameleons.
I did not follow the recipe exactly, monkey chow is not something we have in Sweden for example. But as a base and making your own modifications it is great.
Great pictures, more people should open their dead animals and extend their knowledge. For some its not an option, for me its a must if there is any kind of dispute around the death.
