I supply silkworms to local stores. Yeah $15 is about what they charge..
Honestly, I do not believe silks should live in a cup, it's just not the healthiest enviornment.. I hope they were already a good size when you got them.. cuz after some time they will perish... unlike the horns.
I feel like I am looking at a copy of myself...but not quite.
In my quest to understand more about the silkworms available in the US, I think I have learned more about the breeds here in the US, just little bit shy of the suppliers themselves, or maybe, even more about their own silkworms...
Thanks Silky, I wish I had help with the website.. it still needs editing work!
Yeah, the piping bag works great. But my hands get so tired when I have squeeze out food for 10,000 silks! :p

Limited quantities of live silks.
Wet chow, dry chow, color chow, magic purple, glowing cyan, cotton candy
ALL AVAILABLE now!:D
Silkyslim, you do not need to make your chow gratable.
You can make it a little runnier, the hydration is good for the silkworms anyway.
WHat you do is put them in a piping bag, and cut away the tip.

I heard they grow faster on the tan chow. Do they breed better on it??
None of the moths, 4 of them are breeding, and the two others have died. I give him sugar water which they do drink.. and someone pointed out that the skinny antennaes show they are females... I know they are hard to sex...
Dont they come in a pod with food already??
Myself and another friend nearby bought hornworms in pods, and all of them came out to be females... what's the deal with that? I have 6 female moths and he had 3 female moths.. and that's the end of the story.. Is this intentional??
I tried dying the chow with red dye, because in CHina a dyed chow is sold, in blue, purple and red. But sadly the experiment did not work. After one week on this red chow that I made they didnt turn red.
so, i got the color chow imports sent to me from China.
I sell them on my website in 2...
10 silkworms will be enough to lay over 1000 eggs.
usually, the males emerge sooner than the females. usually.
They are smaller and have bigger wings.
females are fat and have at times deformed wings.
You can sex the silks at 5th instar.. but it's not easy. Given 10 moths you will be...
hey, the MF and CS deal was what I told you! and no it wouldn't surprise me if they just use mulberry chow for either worms. What they pay for chow will make your mouth drop. SUPER CHEAP. I on the other hand, pay more than they do for imported chow because mine flew over by plane but I offer...
somebody gave them to me and asked me to breed them for his chams.
Yes I did use tomato plants and weaned them off chow.. but the last two ones got the wasp cocoons on them.. and the plants have basically died off now. All those plants that you mentioned I grow. I'd rather not introduce...
Last week I bought a bag of hornworm chow from MF. It looks just like the mulberry chow and has the same instructional label on the back.
I have not opened it yet.
Then I was at the reptile show and saw the MF hornworm pod. It is clearly mulberry chow that are in the horn pod.
Did...
Let me know how it goes! I think its great that they can fly around and mate. I just like things naturally. I plan on putting some sugar water in maybe like a sponge?? I heard they will lay eggs better when fed.
yea, someone gave me a pod too, asking me to breed them. They have burrowed in the dirt in a big pretzel stix container.. I fed them on leaves.. I just figured I use all the natural resources available around me (I have a garden)
I put them in a mini green house, well not so mini, but nearly...
Thanks to all the bufferers.
Honestly, now that I know, I can see why Syn and Metric would jump on it and be upset. I didn't know enough about keeping chams and I ended up saying something that could've misled others. If someone said something that was downright outrageous about silkworms...
I see I have clearly made quite a few members upset. No, it was not in my place to talk about things that I don't have thorough knowledge of. I really wish I could go back and take off the entire post. All this preparation would be good for me when I get a cham one day.. or am I now being...
Ok. you don't have to buy in on what I believe... you are sounding very personal about it. Even alot of the threads here don't have a lot of stats to back it up. Perhaps the issue here lies in that I don't own any chams and I have no biz being on this forum. The thread that I did post mention...
