the best way for you is to order eggs!! What I can do for you in the future is to give you small pods of pre made...
doesn't smell good to me. It is actually spoiling. But it doesn't hurt the horns as bad as it hurts silks.
Silkworms grown on leaves smell very nice! It's like fresh cut grass.
I use chow in the off seasons and they smell like rusty metal!
after switching to leaves, man, the silkie room...
hey! you are in Long Island, me too!!
I noticed that MB is doing drop shipping. I think they send the extra silks that they didn't sell to someone in LA. this person grows them on leaves (cheaper) and do a dump sale that includes shipping. I got some and they were HUGE!! SO HUGE that i don't...
hi, I was wondering if you all can help me.. trying to find ways to improve my products.
My question is, when MB/CS sell their silkworms in small and mediums. What sizes do they really come in???
I mean, I've ordered mediums before, but they came at 1.5 inch (much bigger than they...

they are a bit small to cocoon.. it looks like you need at least 5 more days!
and also, those leaves are pretty young. Has the trees just leaved out and you were using chow?

when you shake the cocoons, you can hear a nice clear rattling sound. That means it is live. If it is muted, or light and crisp it is probably dead.
In general, cocoons on chow don't have a very emergence rate. Chow introduces too much pathogens into the silkworms, that if they dont die...
did they hatch yet??
to be on the safe side, you should let it sit in the fridge for 2 months.. I have mine for 3 months, and they all hatch at 100% and I take them out only a few hundred at a time.. still many thousands...
good to know for our purposes. i consulted my sericulturist scientist. She said they are not as nutritious. But their purpose is to produce silk. Ours is different.. so as long as it works, I don't see a problem! I'll do the same come next season. :)
