Thanks for the confirmation. I will wash off the plants when I repot with organic potting soil. Hopefully that will put an end to them.
This is why I love this site - thanks for the help guys!
:D
"Look on the under side of the leaves, are there little eggs kind of gold in color?"
Here's what I see under the leaves - the attached pictures shows what I think are more of the same, but they are REALLY small. Hard to tell what I am looking at :confused:
I don't see them flying, just...
I am setting up new living quarters for my carpets and today I discovered these little white critters creeping around on the shefflera leaves. I think they are aphids, but hopefully someone here can confirm or correct this for me.
I have my chameleons in a completely separate area while I get...
For those who might be concerned, Frank does have a lady friend. "The Bean" is five months old, and to her big girl colors are just now coming in. I am not sure we will grant any conjugal visits until I am more confident with our husbandry techniques. Once I feel like we are doing a better job...
Frank is our six month old male carpet chameleon. Recently he disappeared from his free range, and after an hour or so of searching, we discovered him in the arms of another man. :eek:
It was awkward for everyone involved...
That's a really beautiful set up. Nicely done! :D
Lots of folks here in the states will get their knickers in a twist over the substrate and glass, but it seems to work very well, and man does it look good...
gravid = carrying eggs
receptive = female who is ready/willing to mate
edema = swelling
MBD= metabolic bone disease, a common issue for chameleons lacking in calcium
URI = Upper respiratory infection
CTB = Circling the Bowl, a term used when there is little chance your chameleon will make...
Thanks for the preview!
Great looking gal you have there. My girl ("The Bean") is just 5 months old as of March 30, and this morning was the first time I have seen her be anything but straight up green. Today she showed some black spots across her body and strong black lines on her cheeks. Your...
I tend to agree with DJ Special K - very interesting dialogue. Evolution is one of my very favorite subjects, and the knowledge dropped here was impressive once we got finished with the hostility. No need for it, folks. Even when you're right, if you make your point like a D-bag, you just look...
I feel your pain - I lost one chameleon years ago, and it still irks the crap out of me. Never found him.
Now I have a pair of carpets, and the male has taken to venturing out of his free range lately. Three times in a row he has ended up in the kids toy room. The first time we found him...
"The bulb is a exo-terra sun glow bulb..."
Not sure if this is the same type I have heard about, but there are some UV bulbs out there that have been implicated in some serious eye damage in chameleons. Hopefully someone who knows more than me will chime in, but that was my concern - hate to...
Lighting
I like the enclosure - nice work.
What is the situation with lighting there? I see what looks like a pretty serious basking light, but no full spectrum tube. Most folks here recommend using a Reptisun 5.0 florescent tube or similar, not a CFL though.
I would also be concerned...
For the reptisun 5.0 tube light, you can get a fixture that is designed to go under your kitchen cabinets at Walmart. Cost me all of $7.99 for mine and it works great!

You definitely have my sympathies - I am working my butt off right now trying to save one of my scheffs, and when I saw what lousy shape it was in I said the exact same thing - " I SUCK!"
I would be interested to hear more about how one should properly repot a scheff...
I watched your video...
... and I just want to say that any concern for ventilation should be put to rest. This is really exceptional work. I am working on a new set-up for my carpets this weekend, and you have given me a lot to think about. Thank you for sharing it with us.
"That's just like, your opinion man..."
I'm guessing that many of our friends from Europe would beg to differ on the need for screen. This seems to be a US bias. Since many folks from around the world appear to have been quite successful with enclosures that are other than screen-only, I'd say...
I just read through the article linked in the earlier post. No info on expected lifespan, which was part of Paul's original post. Does anyone have an answer for that?
Paul,
I picked up a pair of carpets from Jim at Chameleon Company in December '08. I have really enjoyed them. One thing I have noticed about mine is that they are quite shy. This morning was the first time I have ever witnessed my female eating. I caught a glimpse of the male eating last...
