Go for bigger crickets than pinheads-- one or two sizes up always did fine here. Forget fruitflies unless you can make you own giant-sized cultures two months ahead, as you'll bust the bank. The babies will easily tolerate each other up to 3 to six months of age, so one small group screen cage...
Hey Army, how is the progress on the eggs? One of the other adoptive parents here with two of our babies also has a clutch of panthers in incubation. My wife Deb threatens to buy me a panther, but I said no, as our present set-up is best and easiest for montane species. I also like the...
Wow, I've raised a bunch of Jax but never saw a male with the red streaks on the flank. The two females in our cage are different----mom is always green, and the other is always brown with red streaks. We wondered if it's a pecking-order thing, since they can change to black when mad. Will he...
Thanks for the responses here . My experience with Jackson's has been to drench them almost daily with an overnight drip in the shower, or for an hour or for an hour on the lawn with the hose set on mist. I've dripped the cage with a bottle and a pinhole, but the animals don't get the same level...
My Jacksons love a good overnight drip in the shower, but my wife hates it. It is a drag after awhile to run the animals from their basement cages to the upstairs bath, so I've been considering a misting system. There's alot of conflicting info here, and I'd appreciate any input you CF members...
And the last two sent out to Bill in NJ. The third cage is now empty.....
Everyone asks me about the horns on the baby females. Mom is hornless, dad is definitely a xanth, so I think the little nubbins will fade away as the girls mature.
Well, just this AM, funny you should mention it, as I took the trio out of their overnight shower in the darkened bathroom, Jermaine started bobbing and weaving, and the two girls turned black. I'll probably start giving him half days in the harem cage soon.......... The kids love the cute...
Funny story---I was in lab counting anesthetized fruit flies for a genetics experiment, when a miracle occurred--- "Dave" our resident pain in the arse bent over right in front of me to tie his shoe, so **PUFF* I blew 600 sleeping fruit flies into his big white guy afro!! 30 years later I still...
Army, easy as pie. I got supplies from Carolina Biologic for culture medium, then bought local flightless D.hydeii to populate the jars, using half gallon Mason jars or any other container with a reliable lid. The life cycle is about a month, and one jar populated can be used to culture out a...
Well, I found it much more satisfying to donate the most recent clutch to members of this forum here (see our thread "The Jackson Nine"), instead of trying to sell them to a pet store that might sell them to knuckleheads who will be going to a lizard funeral soon.
I'm a physician for people...
When your eggs hatch------when will the blessed event be? Honestly, fruit flies are as clean and easy as possible, but you have to plan a month ahead. I would grow them in half gallon jars (hydeii, not melanogaster) and the babies would climb across the jars on chopsticks eating the bugs by the...
Hey, thanks for the photos. So proud to see my kids so well cared for and loved. The babies are so cute even the teenaged girls who come through here love to hold them, but I said NO to them adopting babies, as it would have been a death sentence.
And the silkies sound like too much trouble...
Oh and vets----unfortunately they don't charge by the ounce but by the visit, and since cats and dogs are by far more popular then most vets have little herp experience. My $15 lizard once cost me $120 at the vet, and then it died anyway (my wife was pregnant and a little insane with worry so...
