Has anyone kept a cham in a bird cage?

This is actually something I considered during my recent spree of research in preperation for getting a chameleon. There are many pros and cons, and people have mentioned a few of them. They are actractive, with easy cleaning and easy setup. Definatly better viewing then the apogee...

    New Cage and Setup

Im certainly no expert, so I yeild my oppinions to those who are. But here is my two cents. The tempature and humidity required will be different depending the species you get. When you decide on a species, get the specific numbers, then alter your setup to acheive those numbers before your...

    Hows this setup?

I'm sure that your location does help, Utah's dry air may require me to mist more then that though. Kim: Thank you, that is not something I had forgotten, I simply figured they were assumed so I didn't include them.

    Hows this setup?

Wow I really did overshoot the wattage. Yep, still planning on Senegal. I'm glad that you approve of my supplementing schedule. Thanks to you and everyone who has posted.

    Hows this setup?

Yes, I have read that D3 can build up in a chameleons system and actually be harmful. From what I understand, D3 supplements should be given once to twice a month depending on how much natural sun exposer they get.

    Hows this setup?

I plan on it. There will be quite a bit of testing done before I actually purchase my chameleon because this is the first time I've done this and I wanna do it right. Apropriate dry time is something I will be testing in addition to time needed to raise humidity and create sufficient drip on the...

    Hows this setup?

Ok, I think I'm finally read to begin making some purchases in preperation for getting a chameleon. But before I would do like to post my "shopping list" and get any feed back anyone would like to offer :D. Encloser - 16x16x30 aluminum screen cage from lllreptile Lighting - 18" slimline...

    Thinking of going Senegal

Wow, I feel very deceived. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. I'm very sorry they were using your pictures without permission. I would have been very upset if that happened to me. The fact that they were asking for pictures is sounds very suspicious to me. I have actually...

    Thinking of going Senegal

Just an update: I spoke with reptilesncritters, the only place I can find that will actually sell a Senegal chameleon. Apparently the reason there are no CB Senegals is that the parasites carried by Senegals are easly transmitted to other animals. You can see how this would be a problem for...

    Thinking of going Senegal

Brad thank you so much. Your input has been so helpful :D So would a 16x16x30 be big enough for senegal? I can go bigger but it would probably have to be an apogee cage if I did.

    Thinking of going Senegal

So when your treating a chameleon with parasites, you do so to ensure the health of the chameleon, not because they present a danger to humans? And of course I will use careful handwashing practices before and after handling any chameleon.

    Thinking of going Senegal

This is actually very close to what I have been planning on doing. In fact I plan on having the entire setup; encloser, mysting/dripping/draining, foliage, lighting, and have humity, uvb, and heat thoroughly tested before even purchasing my cham. Obviously the first step is deciding definitively...

    Thinking of going Senegal

I do have a source for obtaining a Senegal, but I'm sure that they are WC. So what is the process for getting them tested/cleaned? And how "safe" are they once they are treated?

    Thinking of going Senegal

So are there no CB Senegals at all?

    Thinking of going Senegal

I've looked into carpet chams, but they are a little too small for me. I beleive the Senegal size (<12") is right where I would like to be at. They are kept much like veileds, but I don't have the space for an adult veiled, thus why I went to Senegal. I have not run into any issues that appear...

    Thinking of going Senegal

Still doing alot of research but I think I have settled on getting Senegal. Because they are on the smaller side, I will be able to provide him with relativly more space then I would a large species. I have read that Senegals can be kept in a 16x16x30 encloser. Is that accurate? I...

    Forced to raise feeders?

Your not discouraging at all. I came here for honesty and I appreciate everyone who has posted It is not keeping instects in the house that bothers me(clearly I worded this poorly because that seems to be what everyone is addressing), it is the idea of raising them that I can't stand. As...

    Forced to raise feeders?

How long can you keep crickets or worms without having to give them their own shelter, lighting, and food(outside of gutloading of course)?

    Forced to raise feeders?

But even if you recieve an order every two weeks, thats still up to 13 days where you would have to be maintaining the crickets/worms life because the young cham has to be eating every day. If you have to provide shelter, food (outside of gutloading), and heat to keep them alive, then whats...
