    Parasites and showers

shower temp Please do not turn the water on "as hot as it gets", and then use bouncing water off the walls and steam. Steam dehydrates. The water temp ideally is slightly above room temp. When you test the temp for comfort, test it on the inside of your wrist, not your fingers. I shower...

    early coloring up CH

Thanks, Jann and Vibrant! They are very cute, indeed. It's difficult to get work done with them being so thoroughly watchable.

    early coloring up CH

I couldn't get pix of everyone tonight, since a couple houseflies were left inside, trying to escape the cage. These two were closest, and showing some surprising color for their ages. Check out the pale sky blue on their heads, and the yellow coming out in the green stripes... This is the...

    Vet visit today "coccidia"

Albon works well, just keep him well hydrated and quarantined away from your other chams and pets. My vet went with the highest recommended dosage that needs minimal frequency (less handling stress), and everyone cleared up nicely.

    weird thought re: neonate mortality

Several keepers over the years have witnessed the melleri baby die-off phenomena, but no solid leads beyond signs of an unknown but rapid general infection. So I was following a link from a keeper looking for help with parasite meds, and this struck me...

    Lobes

Look at his muscles!! If it takes a captive 6 years to reach Dume's skull size, do you think he's at least 8 or 9 years old?

    Odd habit.....

I've seen melleri do this, too. They select one "enemy" cable tie lock to attack. Sometimes, it is preceded by lobe flipping and tongue shooting, then the bite attack, then a solid sideways chew with the lateral teeth. I had to turn the ties upside down, so that the lock was under the perch...

    Do hornworms bite?

Don't be paranoid, be information-empowered.;) Melleri can kill even the biggest ones, but in their greedy haste, they don't always kill-bite everything they take in. If you don't have nippers for the mandibles, you could crush the heads with needle-nose pliers. The goal is to disable the...

    Do hornworms bite?

yes, they bite This is an old post of mine from mellerichams: This morning, I fed out 1 appropriately-sized (not full-grown) hornworm to each of my largest melleri. I started working in the next room, and a while later, I heard a hiss/cough noise coming from the cham room. My largest cham...

    Courtship Behaviour

Hi Adam, This doesn't help what you're asking, but some thoughts... The top pix, the pale one, looks the color that melleri adults take on when they are elderly, or slightly overheated, or dehydrating, or anemic due to an undetected parasite load. Just for your reference, that's the color...

For those of you that like field work/herping. Some chams too.

Wildlife photography and wild life photography. The landscape, the snapping turtle, and five-lined could all have been photo'd right here, by my house! I need to share my desktop pic- who wandered into my yard last month. Neat pix!

    Courtship Behaviour

If it's OK, I'll just reply to your pm questions in the thread you linked. Both males and females have the ability to rapidly flick, or hold erect, their lobes. Unless you have a photo of your "female" laying eggs before you owned her, it's difficult to determine the actual gender. Has the...
