    Melleri Not Digesting Food!

Debby, I use NutriBac df powder for my chameleons. It does make a difference in animals that have been on antibiotics. Giving NutriBac df while the animal is ON antibiotics won't help much. Whole undigested prey like that, an easy-to-digest hornworm, makes me wonder if there is something...

    CH pix thread

Patrick, yours are CB, not just CH. You should start a CB Growth Photos thread! It would be great to have the two threads parallel.

    CH pix thread

WOW! That's huge for this age, even faster than those in CB breeders' charts for this age. Are they living outdoors, getting sun all day?

    When to say enough!

The dehydration from not drinking for so long causes chams to produce excessive, thick saliva. A lower respiratory infection (which is pneumonia) is not being helped by the saliva issue. The saliva could be making it look worse than it is. Does he breathe better in a shower, with the humidity...

    CH pix thread

Just fed them again and tried for more pix- no luck- but did see reiteration of a new hunting strategy. I noticed this last week... I dust the houseflies in baggies (a different baggie for each supplement), then dump them on each of the scheffs. The flies are unable to fly while dusted, so...

Raising standards fly maggots on fruit fly mix

By "standard", do you mean houseflies, Musca domestica? I hatch pupae from Spiderpharm, and gutload the houseflies on my crix gutload mixed to a paste with organic molasses, with orange wedges for water. Houseflies are lapping flies, so the diet has to be a goo/paste, gel, or liquid for...

    CH pix thread

I'll stop the hijacking and invite everyone to post new pix of their growing 08 CH melleri here. I'll start: Big Red, 8g More coming, these are not keen on having their pix taken... note the evil squint.

    My new cham, Pat.

I guess I'll hijack the ol' Pat thread again for weight comparisons, because it is handy. This week: one is 8g, the rest are all 6g. The eldest brood (of the four of Mike's this year) is officially 3 months old. I saw a post somewhere on here of one CH at 10g last week!!! Wow! That one is...

    dead cham

That's good to know, thank you! The vets who saw my guys said that they don't even have seizures, chams exhibit ataxia instead. There was a firm insistence on using the word "ataxia". I am sure they did not consult Dr Stahl. They said that true seizures are extremely rare in all reptiles...

    dead cham

Not to bring up ugly imagery, but can you describe the seizures? Was it like drunkenness, was the cham walking and circling, was it lying on its side moving, what were the feet and tail doing, how did the eyes look- were they open? How long did it last, and did it happen more than once...

    Whats In A Name?

studio = where I am most of the time cham = chameleon studiocham = what I call the chams who spend time in my studio for quarantine or as residents, as opposed to housechams. I seem to work better with a cham looking over my shoulder as quality control (golf claps).

    WC question

Like the GI tract, the blood parasites can come and go in cycles. Have annuals done, and keep track of his weight monthly. If it is a baby melleri, it may indeed be cleaner than adults.

    WC question

Well, it depends on when the last exam was... some of the parasites have longer life cycles than others. This is why institutions have quarantine for 90 days + 3 clean fecals as standard. The parasites can bloom when the cham starts getting good, regular meals... more nutrition is more to go...

    Purchased a WC Melleri...

Neat! Thanks, Dave! If fenben does all this, what does Flagyll get that it can't? Is it possible to not use Flagyll at all, since it isn't as easy on them as fenben?

    Herc & Megana: Melleri slugfest

Oh, that won't stop Herc. He'll be swaggering at her tomorrow. "Check out my tuxedo, baby!" She didn't exactly chase him down to the ground, so... I suspect she's just testing him. If she really wanted him gone, it would have been a lot longer, and she would not have let him stay on the...

    Need Melleri advice

Panacur (fenbendazole) is an excellent choice, it is a lot easier on chams than other parasite meds. It's a good one to start with to get rid of the "background" parasites, then move on to stronger meds when his weight is up. Female crickets, once they hit a certain size, are almost always...

    Need Melleri advice

How long is Sampson? I understand the convenience of only buying one size of crix, but these giants don't always eat the staple of roaches. Even some of my WCs have showed their disdain by spitting them out. I have to use adult crix for them. The big, gravid females are excellent for low fat...
