i use lucky lure - by way of juli for the crix
get my silks from coastal. i prefer to order over the phone and both businesses allow this and are very curteous.
the allergie to the crix is likely due to the protein in their poop. not sure why one farm would be different from the other -...
tap the tube of on a hard surface, or 'shake' the tube like you are shaking human baby tylenol (a back a forth motion that forces everything towards the floor due to gravity). the flies will all fall to the bottom, or near it, and then you can release them more slowly as they crawl upwards...
it may take time and a lot of patience. your cham may not realize what the cup is for yet. make sure it doesn't starve trying to find out.
i started cup feeding my babies by holding the cup for them to eat out of up to their face and using the same cup (color wise) hoping that they will...
funny, the first thing i thought on seeing your picture was ' that looks like my back yard on the weekend'! it's nice to get everyone out for some sun!:D
congratulations on your new jackson's. i love them! i have 11 although most will be going to their new homes in the next couple of months.
this is a great place; you will get lots of help and information.
welcome!:)
you just got these 2 new, wonderful, fragile and complicated pets. you need to spend some time adjusting to them and the requirements to keep them alive. there is no reason on earth to start a breeding program unless you are ready, prepared for when the eggs arrive and have long term goals on...
sigh... i'm sure all chams are adorable at a young age but i'm obviously partial to jackson's. that whole live birth thing is amazing.
like all newborns hydration is critical - even before food. my babies didn't eat right away b/c the birth was a shock; i wasn't told she was pregnant:eek:
i had a similar situation happen last oct.
i put them in a 'proper' cham cage; all mesh w/the plastic bottom. i added two miniature plants and the mini biovine (just the right size for their little feet). the cage was big enough to accomodate all of them but was not very tall - this was to...
go to 'craigslist' and look under 'animals' in your city/area. you will find plenty of animals (including reptiles and cockatiels) in a short amount of time. this way you can help pets that need a new/loving/forever home and you don't contribute to the horrors of the pet trade at some of these...
maybe the smell of the frass is so overwhelming that you forget about the headache....
my chams have eaten silks w/small threads still attached. it doesn't seem to bother them - and they look like a kid eating cotton candy - 'licking' up the sticky threads off of their lips. this is...
did you see the injury occur?
is your cham showing any other signs of illness/injury?
i am not sure how placing a band around his neck is going to reduce swelling.
i cannot imagine doing anything but letting time heal this problem. hand feeding is a must until his tongue is...
i think that expecting your little boy to recognize and go to a feeder cup after one success may be too optimistic. multiple feeder cups is a good idea - but, here's my story, i have a little boy who always seems surprised to see the feeder cup (even tho it resides in his cage). i always use the...
if your cham is a baby you might want to risk waking up the cham to retrieve the crix. if it is an adult.... well i leave the uneaten crix in their cages - the crix seem to go to a corner and hang there, not roam around the cage in the dark. i've never seen any crix bites on my adults or babies...
you won't smush the larvae if you grate a lite layer of finely grated chow. when the chow lands on them they immediately start to move to the top.
i don't know what kind of container you have them in but i use tupperware w/fabric or plastic mesh suspended in it - then most of the poop drops...
you need to immediately grate (like w/a cheese grater or a garlic grater) the chow OVER the larvae to cover them w/a light layer. cubes dry out too quickly and w/that many larvae they won't all be able to get to the chow.
