that cham in the pic looks skinny and w/out a uvb bulb it will develop health problems ( like MBD) unless you live in a sunny, tropical type climate like FL.
does your friend free feed, cup feed or what? the cham should be able to eat his fill - and reject the extra. 2 mos old is still very...
they do make great pets - we have them out doors too but have kept them inside too. they are fairly passive - bite doesn't do anything and btw they are disappearing from fl due to the cuban anoles (brown and aggressive in taking territory).
i hope you keep them as pets - we love them!
do you have any ants (not fire ants tho)? ours eat just about any bug, including ants. never have seen them eat fruit......
a pat on the back to you for rescuing them. your karma is good.:D
sounds like they need food as soon as you can get it - crickets are great - our eat them with relish - meal worms are good too. make sure they have access to water - that is also critical. and that they are warm so that they will want to eat. where are you located?
use this forum to do a search on 'supplies' - tons of information will be at your finger tips - plus you will be able to learn what NOT to buy/use. it is best to always check here before believing what most (not all) pet stores will tell you.
happy reading!:)
i've found 2 of my baby jackson's eating soil that they dug out of the plant in their enclosure - and i put rocks in there! i think, from my human perspective, that they are just examining their environment. they were not hungry - i made sure of that. they are too young to breed and they are not...
take the paper and any other substrate that you have at the bottom of the cage out, and don't replace it. they don't need a substrate - they can/will eat it, poop in it causing bacteria to grow and it is completely unnecessary/hard to clean.
i too am so sorry that your male died. very sad.
but, i want to caution you about the female. i had a female who looked healthy - in fact i was feeling rather proud that i was doing such a great job when lo and behold she gave birth to 10 babies. i had no idea she was pregnant; neither did...
most people use carrots, oranges, apples, dark greens (like you use) and sweet potato, i believe
i live in fl and so also add strawberries, dandelion greens, cucumbers, banana, peach, grapes and cooked egg yoke. i've tried adding uncooked oatmeal and wheat germ but they are never consumed...
just make sure that what you gut load w/is good quality food. i don't use wax worms - just crix and silks (mainly silks). i find the wax worms are too small and die off too quickly.
i have jackson's and a veild - someone else will need to identify your panther!:)
when you say 'supplement' are you talking about the dust on the locust? or are you talking about the gut loading?
if you mean gut loading - then the locust uneaten should be removed daily and switched out for fresh ones. then allow the old locust a day or 2 to eat more food b/f you give them...
see if you can find 1/4 in crix - i know - it is hard.
my babies started on the 1/4 inch - i promise that they won't be too big for yours. and they have more to them than the little flies.
you need to get all of the babies out of the aquariums and into mesh cages. they require heavy misting and keeping the air stagnent in the plastic/glass cages will cause URI.
i would be careful about turning up the heat on that ill baby. if you can't find crix in a local shop it is...
