feed them at least once a day - make sure they all eat - this is a bit of a challenge if all 10 are together but you can do it. i never restricted food - if my babies ate all of the food i always gave them more! a few left over flies are ok (crix are a different story, they can chew on chams)...
how are your 10 babies doing today? were you able to get the temps adjusted? how is the mommy doing. she looked beautiful in the picture - interesting pattern on her.
daisy,
i found 4 names w/a link (i hope the link works) try to see if yours is one of these;high casqued, two-striped, ellioit's and uganda mountain chams, then go to...
mary - you're in fl so you can order silks from coastalsilkworms - a fl company. also b/c you are in fl you don't need the incubator mentioned. you will need to work more on keeping your temps down rather than up. during the winter i just move the silk worm containers to my kitchen and they stay...
don't give up on feeding/watering her by hand. until she is able to do this on her own you will need to do it for her.
have you taken her to the vet? any diagnosis?
i've managed to kill every plant i've bought (and i've bought a lot!).
i understand now why some people only use silk plants/vines. at this point i've had to bring in some of my plants from my yard - i can't keep buying plants every month!
how about silk worms? you can order the eggs and hatch them out. they are silent, don't smell (the food does tho when you cook it) and don't move much - they stay where the food is and just eat, eat, eat. look at coastalsilkworms, they are in fl. you will have to offer a variety of food anyway -...
current informal 'research' says a big NO.
i have several male and female jax and by mistake had a situation where one male and one female could see eachother (side by side cages) i kept wondering why the female AND male weren't eating as much, seemed a bit smaller than my others, were...
where are you getting your eggs from?
when i get eggs from coastal i have a near 100% hatch rate.
when i hatch out eggs from adult moths of mine the hatch rate is low. i'm not sure why since i've tried putting the eggs in the frige for 3 months AND not refrigerating them at all.
fire ants appear to come in a variety of colors and sizes - it is possible that the fire ants got him but for him to just have had a few would indicate not. fire ants are aggressively territorial and swarm - so just a few - w/out any more in the area or near by (w/in a few inches) means they...
im not sure about the mass produced method of raising babies - i raised all of mine in aluminum cages w/seperate lights etc. it worked out very well - 100% success rate but it was very expensive and i will NEVER purposly breed chams.
can you put down a 'down payment' on her so that if she has the babies they are already yours?
not to be negative but the babies are going to cost some $ to raise - and you will need cages/food/lights/hoods as soon as they are born - you need to be ready for them!
his horns are nicely developed. can you get a pic w/a reference - like on a finger, hand or have a dollar bill in the back ground? mine are about 7 mos old and they look similar but it is hard to tell w/out the reference
a complete barrier is the standard for housing chams. i have 3 types that i use; fish tank plastic backgrounds (they come in a sheet you cut to size). foam core boards, and most cheeply (and my favorite) a large trash bag cut to fit the dimensions of the side i cover and held up by using a glue...
hmmm.
can you post a pic?
has he fallen recently? any signs of trauma on his skin? is he in a quiet area of the house?
can he see your veild or other chams? is he being handled? by children?
perplexing:confused:
i order silk eggs, silks and their food from coastalsilkworms it is in fl and i've had great success w/them.
i get my crix from luckylure, also in fl. you might be able to have people in the n.e. tell you some places that are nearer to you so you can save on the shipping costs.
