I have 3 year old Ambilobe male from Vince at Screameleons, sire is Thrasher. DOB is 4/20/2012. I have owned him since he was 3 months old and has never had a heath issue. He also eats like a champ and is very willing to breed.
Priced at $300. Please no low-balling, I paid much more for him...
I think you are over simplifying things. This species is not as "easy" or as "hardy" as panthers or veiled as you previously mentioned. They do have difficulties and the main one I experienced was heat and humidity. I live in southern California, very similar to your climate and these factors...
Great advice! In my experience I have never had an issue with plants from any of the main chain stores. I clean them and replace the soil and thats it. Never ever had a problem with any baby of any species. The live plants provide too many benefits for young chameleons to leave out. Pothos not...
Sorry to state the obvious but after a little research most threads on here report the negative results of keeping chams in the same enclosure. In my experience you can house chameleons together when in free range but usually opposite sexes of the same species do not work out as stated.
Dark...
I would also stay away from a feeding cage. I took on a rescue that had a feeding cage and it was a nightmare. I would just cup feed. google it and there will be plenty of responses.
Yeah, those palms are not the best. My chams have cut their hands before. I use shefflera on the bottom and pothos hanging. Both can be bought year around at home depot or lowes.
You also do not need those expensive basking bulbs. just get a regular incandescent house bulb. I use 40-60 watts...
Yes D3 twice a month. No D3 4-6x weekly. People have varying beliefs, but if you just have a little mulch at the bottom and you are not creating a terrarium, I would just remove it.
The prob with the tongue is most likely supplement related.
Yes, in most cases they are solitary. May be stress of being housed together, could also be eggs. Your temps and humidity are off. Lower the ambient temps and increase humidity. I would go with a screen cage not exo terra for the new cages.
