New custom terrariums by Protean Terrariums

There is a very small gap between the doors (about 2 or 3 mm) where they overlap due to the runner spacing. The only feeders that would be able to escape are fruit flies and similarly sized insects, but I assume they can get through the screen in front too (which I expected). Crickets can't...

Troop update (tenuis, uthmoelleri, CH tavetana, oxyrhina and goetzei!

I assume the male oxyrhina is not as shy as the male tenuis?

Troop update (tenuis, uthmoelleri, CH tavetana, oxyrhina and goetzei!

Thanks for sticking the K. oxyrhina in my face! They all look great though, and good luck with the gravid tenuis.

For everyone who KNOWS you can't keep chams in glass

Since you are in California, I would considering contacting Jason at Protean Terrarium if you're looking for a large, custom terrarium. I had some smaller models built by him which can be seen in the enclosures thread. The prices are extremely fair, and you likely would not have to worry about...

    Grasshoppers

Nice uthmoelleri! I used to get grasshoppers all the time but then they stopped showing up. We don't use pesticides, but maybe too many neighbors do...

New custom terrariums by Protean Terrariums

Brad is right. There is about 2 inches of hydroton at the bottom. The substrate is just organic soil, and the lighter colored parts are just more dry than the rest.

New custom terrariums by Protean Terrariums

They've been working very well so far. Most seem to have already adjusted including the K. uthmoelleri after being introduced about 2 days ago. I knew watering would be a breeze from keeping some in exo-terras, and I think that really is one of the biggest advantages, at least for the...

New custom terrariums by Protean Terrariums

Hey guys. I finally got some pictures of a few complete set ups. I'm re-doing the background on two of the enclosures, so they're not shown. I apologize for the glare, the shades didn't help much. Before setting them up, on the racks (I later flipped them on their sides to secure the...

    Tiki Terrarium

Looks nice, can't wait to see it grown in. Are you going to mount any broms on the tall piece of wood or just let vines grow over it?

New custom terrariums by Protean Terrariums

I ordered it from corkstore.com. They call it "Semi rigid insulation cork board", but I confirmed it is the same material. Maryland Cork Company also sells it and it comes out to being cheaper per sheet, but they only sell it in cartons that were much more than I needed. I did not want to...

Mist King value vs Premium nozzle sizes

I received an order of value misting nozzles today and had a question for those who have used both value and premium types. I have enclosures with a glass strip on top and a 1/2" hole drilled for the nozzles. I took the measurement for what size hole I needed from a premium nozzle about 1.5...

New custom terrariums by Protean Terrariums

Sorry, I must have missed those posts. Progress has been a bit slow since certain supplies took much longer to get here. I have two partially set up and are housing a pair of Bd. transvaalense. They are set up fairly simple since the backgrounds hadn't arrived (are set to tomorrow), so did...

Zoo Med and the 6500K lamp?

Where have you found them online? I've found aquarium 6500K T8 strips but want to keep looking since the price was a bit high. The fixtures are by Perfecto and are generally used for aquariums. They look like the standard black fluorescent fixtures sold at pet stores but fit a bulb true to...

Zoo Med and the 6500K lamp?

I have 4, dual bulb 36" fluorescent tube fixtures and haven't been able to find 6500K T8 bulbs in 36 inches at my Lowes or online (they have 18" and 48", most other bulbs are 4100K-5000 I've seen). Since the strips save so much room I might just end up buying these up if the price is...
