My baby chams do that all the time after they shove a cricket down their throat. They also contort there bodies sometimes ... seems like they're trying to push the cricket into their stomach or something.
They don't sit for long with their heads up ... maybe a few minutes or so.
Dyesub...
Hey .. thanks for the suggestion but I haven't seen those feeders for sale around here at all. He won't touch crickets though. I usually leave several in his enclosure just in case he changes his mind. He's around 6 years old and seems to be hanging on - except for the branches.
He only...
Hey All,
I've noticed my old male is really losing his grip a lot lately. He usually seems to catch himself but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he starts to fall. This has been going on for a while now but has been getting worse lately. He eats a few silk / butter worms a day...
Very Cute Julie!! Born with attitude eh?? LOL
BTW - How are those veiled eggs coming along. I can't believe that they haven't hatched yet !!!
Dyesub Dave. :D
Actually ... mine didn't eat for a day or two after they hatched. And even then they didn't eat very much. If the stores are open tomorrow you should be fine. Just make sure to give them some water to keep them hydrated. I'm sure that the babies are still full of nourishment from their yolk...
So Julie .. and action on the eggs yet?? They should be starting to hatch very soon. Have you noticed any of them shrinking a little bit? You're going to be very busy when all those hatch!! ;)
Dyesub Dave. :D
Well ... I'd never seen a box elder bug before until I looked it up. I think that they're kinna cool looking ... but I wouldn't want my house infested with them.
Currently I feed mostly crickets with the occasional silkworm / hormworm treat. And once every few months I get some butterworms...
Well I think that amber colour may be a sign that they're going to hatch soon. I would think that you could add a fair bit of water to your substrate ... just don't make it a swamp!! LOL
I had a few eggs that didn't look as if they were going to hatch and I realized when they did just how...
Hey Julie,
They're looking good. Many of mine turned an opaque amber-like colour before hatching but not all of them. On one of the close-up shots your substrate looks a little dry but then again mine was vermiculite and sand mixed together. I would think that keeping the moisture high...
Yeah ... I wasn't planning on using very much at all. I just thought that perhaps they should get some once in a while. These chams are indoors as it's still a little cool up here to keep them outside.
I recently got some calcium WITHOUT D3 as I believe I read that it's better to use that...
What the HELL is wrong with people?? I hope the people who did this receive much suffering in their lives!! There is generally NO reason to kill any animal except in extreme circumstances such as disease, infestation or to put them out of their misery.
Dyesub Dave.
Well I'm not sure that I agree with you there! Every chart that I've ever seen comparing Silkworms to Crickets show the Silkworms to have much higher protein and calcium content. I would rather feed silkworms to my chams than crickets but unless I'm hatching my own silkies it's far too...
I was wondering when I should start adding supplements to the crickets for my baby veiled chams. The oldest are approx. 3 weeks old with the youngest hatching yesterday. The younger ones are in a separate enclosure than the older ones.
So I just wasn't sure when was a good time to start...
Actually I've seen a few sites that tell you how to turn an old refrigerator into an incubator. The fridge doesn't have to work as long as the seal is good. They get a little elaborate with theirs though.
I was thinking of looking for a broken mini-fridge and just using a shallow...
