Well, looks ok to me with a quick glance. Again, hard to see any specifics.
Still, you can post about what his setup is like and everyone may have other input.
That picture is kind of blurry. Why do you think he isn't doing ok?
What kind of setup do you have with plants/light/misting
What do you feed? What are your supplements?
I'm pretty sure he meant the cage itself was only 4' tall, but with the stand and drainage and everything else under it, then the cage was taller, but the rest wasn't part of the cage.
How many you feed a day would depend on male/female, the age of the cham and the size of the crix.
I've been feeding my 4-5 month old male about 8-12 every day. I put them in the cage in the morning (in a feeder cup) and they are gone by the time I get home. I sometimes through another 3-5...
I have a male vieled and put him into my 2x2x4 cage at 3-4 months of age (I don't know his exact age, I think he is 4-5 months old now). He hasn't had a problem at all, finds food fine (I use a feeder carton) and enjoys it from what I can tell.
I work as a claims adjuster for an insurance company. This is new to me though as I did work as a project manager for a software company for years before this.
No, chams are not nocturnal. They will be the most active and hunt during the day.
There is debate on this but I think the most people think there should be no nighttime light or heat sources (as long as it doesn't go below 50-60 degrees F).
What kind of cham? What is the cage setup to this point?
Typically it is a bad idea to have any kind of substrate in a cham cage. 1) They are arboreal animals, so they rarely go to the ground anyway and you don't need to have a substrate and 2) When trying to eat they could accidentally eat...
I had been keeping my crix in a cup as well and it could take all day before my cham would see them and eat. Sometimes I'd see that he didn't eat all day (so I would take them out so they can re-gut load.
I now use something different. I use a 1/2 gallon plastic milk carton cut on 2 sides...
I hand mist mine and have a dripper going all the time. I've seen him drink from the water coming off the dripper but every time I hand mist he turns brown and runs around trying to get away. Today, for the first time, he hissed at me too. I think he is taking cues from my dog from when I...
I've seen my cham do that when eating small-medium crix too. Looked kinda like the alien from the Alien movies! He was ok just after, kept eating... I thought it was just a natural behavior.
I believe a lot of people will say to cut the Calcium +D3 dusting, along with the multivitamin dusting to twice a month for both. At least this is what I gathered from my research because the cham can't process those dustings as quickly as calcium by itself.
EDIT: He looks a lot like my...
As to crix food I use carrots, potatoes, and various greens. I also have water gels for something for them to get liquid from.
I do have a dry crix food as well. I bought that from mulberry farms.
Any pics of your new guy? :) Congrats! Let me know if you go the route of free ranging. I can't do that because I have a cat as well and don't want my cham to become a late night snack...
