Said I would post my pics of my veiled's enclosure - albeit quite humble compared to the others in this thread!
The first one is his inside terrarium 90cm x 60cm x 60cm and the second is his outside flexarium 120cm x 90cm x 45cm.
Can anyone tell me what the purple coloured mark on my veiled's lower arm is? Could it be a bruise and how would he get one? I handle him only occasionally and am very gentle. Also, I have never seen him fall so how did this happen? The mark appeared a few days ago and was definitely not there...
Thanks everyone, I really enjoy my time on this forum. I have found it so informative and useful. Not to mention how helpful and caring people are - I guess if you love chameleons then you are a unique kind of person.
I know the age of the chameleon makes a big difference but just wanted to find out how often veileds shed their skin? I guess it also depends on how much they are eating and if they are going through a growth spurt. Mine is just over 9mths old and he shed a month and a half ago.
I have been doing some internet research and this is what I found.
These flying "ants" are actually flying termites known as termite swarmers or termite alates (meaning - having wings). They are the species known as Coptotermes formosanus or commonly Formosan Subterranean Termites. A termite...
Sorry to hear that Leah died but at least she is not suffering anymore. Please please andrew do not get another chameleon until you are older and understand how to care for one properly. Chameleons are sensitive and fragile and not suitable pets for children. I do not blame you, I blame your...
It looks like MBD to me and if it is, leah is too weak to move. Andrew, did you dust her food with calcium at every feeding? I read in another thread that you do have a UVB light, so then you would only need to give her vitamin D3 once a month. But she needs calcium everyday. Please make an...
There is another thread on this topic where andrew has filled out the care sheet but his setup is all wrong. Wish he would post a picture so we can see whats happening. I think it may be too late for poor leah.
That is very sad. I am not sure what to say...except that chameleons are not easy pets and need very specific care. Remember that they are reptiles, which means they are cold-blooded so they require an external heat source to increase their body temperature. Without heat they will die. Is it...
Ok, so I have read that Veileds eat mainly flying insects in the wild so I want to know if it would be ok to catch flying ants and feed them to mine? We have loads of flying ants hatching out of the ground here in South Africa and it seems a waste to let my dogs eat them all.
Feeding pinkys is ok but only every now and then, though that looked like a fuzzy which is a bit bigger. Stick to smaller ones which have no hair at all and the body is still pink all over, hence the name.
He eats crickets when he is in his flexarium outside but will not eat in his inside enclosure. Unfortunately I can only put him outisde on weekends cos I work and am away from the house from 06:30 until 17:30 so this means he does not eat from Mon-Fri. I asked the pet shop where I bought him and...
There are so many fantastic enclosures here!!! I especially like the free-range ones. Mine is quite sad in comparison but will post a pic anyway. At least this thread has given me some great ideas on how to improve my cham's setup.
