    Basking Setup Questions

Good, so it sounds like my plans are still on the right track. I'll have to see what colors are available. What wattage are people using to attain the proper basking temps? Spot bulbs or just the regular round bulbs?

    Basking Setup Questions

I've been researching but have only been only able to find very general info. I've been working on setting up a Panther Chameleon enclosure. I have the 24"x24"x48" DIYCages cage. I'm going with a DIY rainmaker as found on this forum. I purchased and have a Reptisun T5 single fixture with a...

    New Panther Chameleon Setup Advice.

Setup looks nice. Not sure about the bulb, not familiar with a Solar Bright. Sounds like a Mercury Vapor bulb, like what I use on my basilisk enclosure. I'm in the process of setting up a Panther cage too. I was considering a MV bulb (UVA & UVB combined) for mine, but the majority...

    What plants do you use?

I'm just in the setup stage, but I'm looking to do mostly horizontal branches for support with a pothos up high draping the vines up and down. I saw it in a blog by olimpia and loved the open bottom look. I hear pothos are very easy to keep.

    A little confused about lighting

Alright, now you guys/gals have me leaning towards a T5 for UVB. Question here, I'm going to use a rain ring which has the 1/4" tubing attached directly to the inside of the top screen of the cage. Would the T5 fixture be able to be placed directly on the top of the screen over the tubing...

    DIY rain attachment

I just finished with my 1st attempt. My inner ring is about 6" diameter and outer is about 10" diameter. There's about 6" from the outside ring to all sides of the cage, it doesn't look like it from the photo. I was trying to leave room for the heat lamp, without it being right over the...

    A little confused about lighting

Yeah, from all I've read over the years, the Megaray is the best MV bulb for reptiles. That is what I have over the cage in the photo. I think I'm considering one of the following setups: a) single 24" T5 Reptisun 5.0 and a Basking bulb in a dome or b) single 100 Watt Megaray in...

    A little confused about lighting

All this talk about more UVB and 3 or 4 bulbs has me re-thinking the ReptileUV bulb like I use in my Basilisk enclosure. I have that in a 3' tall with 1/2" chicken fence just under it and the plants grow up to it great. I was thinking of placing the bulb about 8" above the cage, so it would be...

    A little confused about lighting

Questions 1 - I believe I've read that T8 Reptisun 5.0 bulbs need to be replaced every 6 months if you don't have a meter. I thought I read that T5 need to be replaced every year. Is this true for T5 Reptisun 5.0 bulbs? 2 - Would a single T5 Reptisun 5.0 get hot? I plan on attaching...

    A little confused about lighting

jamjam - this is the thread https://www.chameleonforums.com/definitive-lighting-thread-everything-you-really-need-know-80869/ I was originally going to use a 100W Reptile UV (MV), like I have for my basilisk. It would surely provide UVB. But I was told the better light choice was linear...

    A little confused about lighting

I thought I had a good idea of the direction I needed for lighting for a male Panther until I read a long thread on here about T5's. Now I'm confused if my initial plan is wrong. I have a DIYcages 4' tall x 2' wide x 2' deep screen cage. I have a 20" fluorescent fixture, that uses standard...

    DIY rain attachment

If I understand you correctly, it would only be fed from one end and the end of the spiral would be furthest from the feed tube. I'm guessing it would loose too much pressure by the time it got to the end. The circle with fittings allows it to get feed from both sides, so less pressure loss, I...

    My Review of DIYcages.com (2014)

Not sure, do they work or are they upside down? I don't see how my latches would work from the other side. They would be clicking up not down, so doubt they would stay locked. Have you contacted them?

    Other Reptile Species?

I hope to be getting a Male Panther in the future, but for now I've got my Female Green Basilisk (Jade). I've had her for 3.5 years and think she was at least 18 months old when I got her. Here's an old photo from about a year ago. The cage is so much more over grown it'd be impossible to get...

    DIY rain attachment

How's the splash with the rain ring? I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to drain the cage. I was thinking of just getting a washing machine pan, which will extend about 2-3" past the cage sides and front (more on back), tilting stand towards the back a little to a drain line...

    My Review of DIYcages.com (2014)

Yeah, we liked the aluminum finish look over the black. Another reason we chose the DIY cage, I thought I read that the LLL grey was now darker. Just got word, he is sending me a new door, so I should be good to go with the cage.
