I've only been bitten once, "attacked" more than enough times. All wild, I am not trying to seek out these mantis or trying to capture them for keeping, I have no desire to do so. I do not know anyone personally that keeps mantis in any form.

It is my understanding that we can't get locust and grasshoppers here(U.S.) unless they are wild caught, then you risk potential pesticide exposure to your chameleon.

I don't know about that, you'd have to ask a number of the other members on this forum that have fed them as feeders. Why is this any more cruel than any other insect we use as feeders?

I'm glad you enjoy the thread. Be careful if you order mantis, you may just get attacked when you open the box, they'll outnumber you and know they have the advantage. I have never faced more than one at a time. I am not sure what your results would be, hopefully you would survive.

They know not to attack you now..... I might have to try this method as a warning of sorts to all the other mantis.

The only problem with "Into the Wild" is that he didn't know how to survive, good book, but not quite the same kind of story. A great book that is similar is "One Man's Wilderness" by Sam Keith. It's not about a young boy, but I think it's even better than "My Side of the Mountain" Another...

This one is definitely ready for a fight though, he's doing that "crane" move from karate kid. That is a winning move, you can't defend it... I've seen the movie, that's just how it works.

I don't think they do it to everyone, but if there's a few people around and one flies in, they always go for me. They might land on the ground first, then they do that leg thing like in the pic then jump/fly at me. I don't start these fights, but I am not letting a mantis win.... I try not to...

I wouldn't try to eat these things if I was a chameleon,but I'm glad they do. I hate these things, they always attack me. I had to battle with one for 10 min. before I finally just decided to squish it and end the fight.(Not the one in this photo) They're trained in martial arts as you can see...
