I started with Sambava and that's where I'll probably maintain my focus, however I'll probably start working with Nosy Mitsio and Ankaramy. My wife is really interested in getting some Ambilobes.
I see nothing wrong with cross-bred F. pardalis, for pets, as long as they're properly identified. I'm not as concerned about them when they come straight from the original breeder, but more concerned with how much of thier origin gets lost in translation from owner 1, to owner 2, to owner...
Do you feed your crickets only the CricketFood Gutload? I was under the impression that it just kills them off after a couple of days because their digestive system can't handle the calcium. It would be way easier if I could solely feed them the gutload.
I agree that the whole thing sounds like a ton of fun and even I get excited about such things. I'd be interested in seeing them, but I'd leave them where they are.
I almost feel like it would be best if the entire feral population be eradicated. In this case they're obviously not creating a very large impact on the ecosystem they inhabit and certainly other feral species around the world have turned out to be ok. I think one of the biggest problems with...
When I was really young I had a baby opossum, that had been seperated from it's mother, for a few months. Surprisingly it was a very gentle/docile companion. I like it a little better than the two baby skunks my grandpa had for a while... I only got sprayed once!
I did visit Carmel while I was there. I actually got married there two years ago, so I was back this time for a little anniversary trip. Before my son was born we'd go about 3-5 times a year just to hang out for a weekend and eat some excellent meals. I've cut back on road trips significantly...
This thread is a prime example of why this "rumor" should have been kept under wraps. If a ferrel population isn't bad enough, now people are offering to catch and distribute them. This is a species that is easily obtainable as CB so I feel that the ferrel group should be observed, but not...
It's all good, Dave, someone has to be the voice of reason. If it weren't for my wife I'd be into all kinds of projects that I know I shouldn't get involved in. I once wanted to tear out my entire bedroom closet to convert it into a large tree monitor enclosure. :D
California weather varies quite a bit depending on location, but coastal areas are probably most suitable due to it getting much cooler at night and getting a lot more mist.
Hey Chad,
I'm going to need at least:
Qty. 1 - 18x18
Qty. 1 - 16x16
With a lot more to come I'm sure, so please keep me posted. I'm thinking a side-mounted bulkhead would do the best job of keeping things dry.
To be honest I don't even use one. I got one for my first cham, and I still have it, but I never even look at it. I don't work with any species that has a very strict requirement, but even still it's not too hard to tell the humidity of an enclosure.
New Zealand Mud Snail (Potamopygrus antipodarum) is running a muck in lakes/streams in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. They're asexual so it only takes one to produce millions and they're outcompeting the mayflies and caddisflies. This in turn impacts the trout poplulation as their prey...
My cousin twisted my arm for damn near a decade before I finally gave in. I'm glad I waited though, because the aquarium hobby gave me the patients necessary to be successful with chameleons. Big thanks to Chris, you told me so!
