It is to my understanding that many in the UK (and I believe a lot of Europe) use glass because of their ambient temperatures year round compared to the US. We might want to take into consideration the OPs physical location.
The sire of my Ambilobe male is Lucifer, an Ambilobe with some Ambanja crossing. Lucifer is a stud to the extreme. My Ambilobe is his son and he is turning out to be a stunner as well. He is at 8 months and showing extreme coloration. The first link is a picture of Lucifer from Lancecham...
Sometimes they're good at hiding their little poops, like perhaps in the pot of the plant or among the leaves. So you might have missed little ones. Don't be too worried. You've seen some poop and if he is eating well, he'll probably poop more regularly as he gets comfortable.
This is my official photo thread for my female Ambilobe Aayla. The surgeon general suggest you where some sort of chest protection because she will steal your heart.
First pic, but certainly not the last
Look at my face!
I'm thirsty
Do I look fat to you?
Hey, let me...
You feed them 3 times a day? I think that you should cut out the 7PM feeding as it is recommended that they have 4 hours of basking time to digest their food.
For supplementation, you want to dust with calcium without D3 almost everyday, and with D3 only twice a month. And then something...
So Aayla (the female ambilobe) has gained 6g since last week. Veilder seems to be on a growth spurt because he is noticeably larger and has gained 10g. Maul (male ambilobe) has not been eating like he used to. I believe he has been stressed out ever since I moved the cages to another room...
Why wait for a problem? Might as well take preventive measures so you don't have any problems at all. It might save you a lot of grief and money in the long run.
It's not an exact figure you get for veils because the recommended humidity is actually not what they get in the wild. They come from drier areas. We as keepers provide them a more humid environment as it gets them to be more colorful then they would in the wild. So to answer your question...
I've had mine in adult size cages since they were 3 months old. 2x2x4 foot is minimum for males, 18x18x36 inch is for females (species dependent). Not sure about a gallon conversion.
Maybe a 60 watt bulb might be more comfortable for him and he won't open his mouth while basking. 85-90 to me is not that hot though. Perhaps lower the basking spot perch like a couple of inches. As long as he's drinking, he should be OK.
