The last thing I would want is another cham when I have 81 fertile eggs! LOL. But yes, temperament. Super skiddish, fragile, and will drop dead (defense mechanism) when you pick them up. I handle them only when I need to inspect them every other month or so.

The point here is YES FICUS IS SAFE. Just watch out for milky sap, if you see it, clean it. Just be cautious of the milky sap that seeps if a branch is broken. The toxicity of the sap from Ficus Benjamina is documented in the "Handbook of Poisonous and Injurious Plants"...

PJackson - makes sense. Not sure if there is actual scientific findings to support this or not. But needing warmth and food, giving birth in the morning when the babies can bask quickly and eat makes perfect sense.
The ficus can irritate eye if the sap gets on it, but the chance of this is small. Most cham's aren't abrasive enough to damage the plant to the point where sap seeps out and can cause harm. You are more likely to break branches and leaves yourself.
