The first time i purchased mealworms from the petstore they told me about the chewing of the stomach thing as well. I don't think they can do anything once they are devoured. Besides unless your cham doesnt chew they are probably dead anyway when they reach the stomach.
Try mulberry farms for hornworms. I also live in NY and i receive them in a couple of days on average. Hornworms get big fast so make sure you don't wait to feed them to your cham. My cham who is actually rather small is able to tackle small-medium sized worms.
Thanks for the fast reply it helps alot =) Hmm I have silk chow and carrots, hopefully those work for now. They're getting very restless, I heard them scratching around last night had no idea what it was lol..
I bought two hornworm pods from mulberry farms, one normal one and the baby cup. The survivors in the large cup are getting ready to pupate/die so im not so concerned about them, but the hatchling ones are now medium sized and they have eaten all of the chow. Do they eat anything else or do i...
Actually the dusting is different for a jackson and they are prone to health problems if you go by that schedule as you would say a veiled or panther. Also they need higher humidity. Fill out the help form so someone with more jacksons experience can assist you.
If they look like they just died very recently i dont see a problem. I wouldnt feed him anything that looks like it is starting to decay, that's just begging for problems.
Also if you dont cup feed crickets love to hide in the substrate, then you have no idea if your cham is eating them or they're just sitting at the bottom of the cage.
If you are considering feeding him anoles in the future, perhaps try and order them from LLLreptile.com. They sell feeder house geckos and anoles. Might be slightly safer then plucking them outside your house. I've fed my cham house flies and she has had no issues from that and the last one she...
For superworms and mealworms i generally show them to her on a tweezer and then drop them in her cage because i dont want to touch either of them. If they are interested they will have no problem free ranging. I hand feed silkies or put them on branches because they usually dont fall off unlike...
I think that's the crap that the pet store originally gave me when i first got my chameleon... i'd suggest getting rid of it. The crickets love to hide in it, frustrating at feeding time not knowing if your cham ate everything or they're all hiding in the substrate.
My cham had zero issues pulling hornworms in with her tongue, and she is pretty small. They werent full grown monsters like that though. The one that stuck to whatever it was clinging to did get torn in half for its efforts lol.
You shouldn't have put them together unless you were trying to breed them. Even then you have to be observant for such signs of aggression. Chameleons don't care if they grew up with another cham, they will be territorial towards each other as it is in their nature.
The only advisable thing to try and calm them down is handfeeding. Don't try to handle it regularly as chameleons dont respond well to the stresses of regular handling. I have a chameleon similar to yours and in her cage she is very territorial towards me but when she is let out periodically she...
I think the other pets in the room is hit or miss depending on the chameleons personality. My cham isn't bothered unless another animal is put right up next to her cage and then she gets defensive. Other than that she doesnt care.
Unfortunately you are not the only one who has fallen victim to the petstore. My very first cham I purchased from a petstore, and I followed what the guy had told me. I knew some things about them beforehand, and i was going online trying to find out more info the day of the purchase and i came...
