Just watched a great show on HDTH channel No.76 on Direct TV of a jacksons eating a praying mantis. Very good detailed clip of a beautiful cham. The show is called Alien insect: Praying mantis. May also replay on the history channel or discovery. Great program on mantids also.
FYI...If your in need of a stethoscope and don't have one handy, cut about a one foot piece of garden hose and put one end up to your ear and the other to whatever your trying to hear. Not quite as good as a stethoscope but almost.
I agree, I've always given d3 only twice a month and have recently cut it to once a month for my veileds and panthers and once every 3 months for the camaroon sailfin. I guess only time will tell.
I have never purchased from flchams but know several people who have and have always had very good, healthy chams. I purchased my last one from the Kammers and www.chameleonsonly.com and recieved the healthiest cham I've ever purchased. He was a little under three months old and was very well...
I agree with Brad about the d3. I was giving mine twice a month and have since cut back to once a month. I did this after reading Dr. wheelock's article on the subject. I am able to get mine out in the sun for a total of about ten hours weekly.
All chams are individuals. Three of mine sleep very deeply, one will wake at the slightest noise. None of mine have been as jumpy as yours seems to be, but it may just take time for him to adjust to you. Be sure your dirt doesn't have any fertilizer or insecticides in it. Be sure it doesn't have...
Best staples would be silkworms, roaches and superworms. By the numbers, phoenix worms would be the best but they are very small and unless the cham breaks the skin, they will pass right through their digestive tract undigested. Probably others that just aren't coming to mind.
Tia, when he was on his side, was he parrallel to the light source? If so, he was just in this position to get as much heat as possible. This would also explain his dark color. If this is the case, just look at the opposite side of him tomorrow. If the side toward the light is dark and the other...
LMAO...I have a picture of you in my head, crouched behind a table with your arm up and spraying a stream at her. Just struck me funny. The things we'll do for our chams.
Mohamed, I know you don't want to give up on this animal and I'm not saying you should, but whoever you bought him from, sold you a very sick animal. They sold him to you as a veiled chameleon and he's not a veiled. They sold him to you as healthy and he is far from healthy. You need to contact...
I found the exact same thing in my silkworm colony. They are about 2 or 3 times the size of this period . and have a slight green tinge to them and are covered with the fuzz. The dot in the middle is the size of the period, not the whole thing. I thought they were silkworm eggs. Maybe not.
Brads right about the size and not the age. The four month old I was talking about was very large for his age. Probably close to 4" nose to vent and very robust. I'm not reckless with the size that I give them but don't hold to the between the eyes rule. My 4 month old had no problems whatsoever...
Does anyone know the nutritional value of these? I feed most of my chams silkies as a staple but have one veiled that won't touch them. Main thing I'm interested in is the amount of calcium they have. I typically dust my silkies very lightly with calcium and not sure how to dust the...
Good luck with him and try and keep his mouth sores as clean as possible. If there on the outside, put some hydrogen peroxide on them a few times a day. It seemed to have worked for mine. Keep everyone updated. David
