He didn't really give anything. When I called he said he worked with exotics and was familiar with chams. He didn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling though. We'll see. Should I put him in something else? Right now he is still in his 2x2x3 screened enclosure. I haven't found him on the...
I supplement with Calcium every other day and vitamins once a week. I was resigned to take him back in tomorrow to put him down, but he I have seen his back legs move slightly. Also if I straighten his tail out, he will curl it back up. Not like he used to, but it seems to move. Will this...
Yes, he is paralyzed. The vet wanted to put him down, but I haven't yet. Is there anyway to keep him or should I put him down. He was active, climbing with his two good arms, but today seems lethargic. This sucks!!
He's going to the vet today. I wouldn't say his tail works. It makes what looks more like an involuntary movement. It doesn't curl up, just the very tip stays curled. I don't know about pooping uncontrollably. He seemed to poop on me whenever I took him out (which was not often). Thanks...
The 85 F is a probe directly under the UVA lamp. The rest is in the 70's during the day. He poops all the time, though I don't think he is eating as much now. He pooped on my hand when I brought him out to see if he would move his legs. Thanks for replying.
I have a young Sambava (aprox 5 months) and I think he may have fell. His back legs and even tail are not moving and he is climbing and hanging around only using his front legs.
Setup:
2x2x3 screen enclosure
Reptisun 5.0
Heat lamp
live umbrella plant
some fake plants, branches, etc...
I think there would be an issue with dusting. Don't crickets clean themselves pretty quickly. I thought I saw in this board somewhere that if crickets were left in the cham cage for like an hour they most likely would not have much of whatever was dusted on them.
Your can do a home made system for about $60-65 if you find a pump for a good price on Ebay. I have had the Habba Mist and it is night and day. I now have a system similar to the ProMist with a diaphragm pump and timer setting that will do anything I want. Got the pump on Ebay for $35...
The pump is the Shurflo "Gold Series". It is designed for RO systems and pumps up to 110 psi. I also think it is desiigned for 35 gallons/day through an RO system.
I bought a shurflo pump on ebay. It was $35 shipped and was supposed to be new, but I question that because there was a little water in the pump. That with a timer, fittings and misting heads like the red ones from mist king totaled about $65.00. My resevoir is a 5 gallon bucket, so it is...
No, I drain the water away. I was curious if 5 gallons of standing water is ok. I mist 3 times a day for 10 minutes and the pump uses about a gallon a day. This would equal water sitting for 2 - 3 days before I top it off. Would that be too long?
I just set up an automatic misting system (DIY with diaphragm pump), but I know standing water is not a good thing in the cage. So, do you guys use some type of bubble stone or something to keep the water in the resevoir moving? It seems like water sitting there could produce some bad stuff too.
I think I read on this site somewhere that the life expectency is shorter for chams in the wild. I think supplementing with calcium has proven to keep issues at bay that may still happen in the wild. So, I would say adding calcium is not to mimick the standards of the wild, but improve on them.
Looks great! I have a question for veiled owners. I just noticed that when mine is chomping on crickets, there is like a cavity in the casque that moves with his jaw. Is that normal or a sign of any deficiency? I have had him for about 2 months and its the first time I noticed it.
Thanks for all the replies. I will give it a go. I have a 20 gallon tank with a screen lid, but I think I will move to one of the plastic deals with screened cutouts to increase ventilation.
