veiled
well first off veileds need a screen enclosure.. your lighting souds ok except for the basking temp. I would not feed just locusts. You need to gutload your feeders and then dust them with a cricket dust. I use herp care by mardel... my veileds like a basking temp in the 90...
veileds like a hotter temp than a panther will.. I have my basking spots around 95 degrees with a 100w basking bulb. then plenty of linear fluorescents also
i was told
I wa told from an experienced breeder that supplementing d3 then putting them in the sun for extended periods of time if done together can cause kidney failure and death. I am not sure of the levels but they will puke up a milky substance if this happens.. then kidney failure...
way to much
I sell my babies(2.5-3months) for $40 and they go up roughly $10 per month that they grow. at least that is how i do it... The Pet stores that buy chameleons for $40 each from us sell them for $99 or so..
timer
you need to buy a timer and have your fluorescent and heat lamp go out at the same time everyday. They get into a sleep schedule. I think going with dusk and dawn is best
Texas
we are usually at least 50% humidity and it is the wonderful texas heat.. i like to take them outside in the summer but you have to watch d-3 levels as if you take them outside with high d-3 levels it can cause kidney failure and death... But natural sunlight is best...
d-3 levels
I don't know if you ever take your chams outside but if you doo you have to make sure not to feed them d-3 as when they are outsid in the sun they produce alot more naturally then under lights.. If weather permits i like to keep them outsid during the day in the summer. ature is...
linear is all I use
I will not try a CF bulb. not worth the risk to me.. I only use the linear fluorescents but I have veileds and I use the 10.0 reptisun.. my chams love it... 5.0 is proly fine too just never used it.. Only in linear fluorescents that is...
lighting
i have a larger cage so I use 1 36", and 1 48" linear fluorescents and 2 100w basking but my cage is 4x4x3... lights at night are not reccommended and you just don't ant to have it tooo hot. make sure your basking is around 95-98 in my opinion...
veileds are great
i really like veileds. As lon as they are digesting all of there food feed them all they want. Just don't leave a bunch of extra crickets in the cage. i think 10 a day for a adult sounds right..
we have 4 kids
I have 4 children and they eat eggs like crazy... Haven't needed extra yet... lol I would go to a farmers market and I would bet you could get some there...
Omg
that is horrible. i hope everything works out as I would hate for the cham to suffer. I saw one of ours shoot for a cricket once and it hit the top screen of the cage and part stuck and the rest kept going. It scared me at first but he still hunts and has great aim and got the...
Mbd
Without proper UVB they will easily develop Metabolic Bone Disease without that light. They will leach all the calcium out of their bones and can break really easily. I would take it to an exotic pet vetrinarian immediatly as it sounds like it is really not well.
