Yellow is never a good colour in chameleons. If the eyes are sunken too then there is something very wrong. I have a calyptratus now with mouth rot and the entire jaw is yellow. Go to the vet asap

As far as lighting goes, id rather leave it on. I had chams that layed before in the dark after the sun goes down and they eand up sleeping in the egg laying site. I would recommend you leave the light on till she is finished as switching the light off may alarm her causing stress or unease
