Btw, there's no need to name the shop. I've seen the babies from this clutch from the time they were very little, and I saw the animal that you bought (as well as the mother). They were/are extremely healthy, well fed and hydrated, and I do hope that you are taking good care of him. The shop...
I'm pretty sure you already asked this, and the responses were similar. He had that temperament at the shop when you first saw him. The above recommendations will help him get more used to you, but chameleons are more a pet to look at than handle. They like their privacy and they like to be...
A legend only in your own mind, unfortunately, but still cool in my books.
I edited my post so it actually makes sense. I was so excited writing it, that my mind got all crazy. You have that effect on me LOL.
No, I've not seen that before either, so that was my concern. That, and the dehydration. If it was wc, which they often are, it's not surprising that it may have had problems. Plus, you can never tell how old they are when you get them that way. Sucks! Been there, done that, and still doing...
I'm so sorry for your loss. These little guys are very delicate, and it's been my experience that by the time you notice there's a problem, it's too late. Also, I don't know how much can be done even if you sought veterinary care.
If you have others (or are thinking about getting...
Dudeking: My plants grow very well with a 5.0 in my large enclosure, and even a 2.0 for my pygmy enclosure. Both are very heavily planted, and the plants are doing amazing.
Scheffleras (sp) can grow pretty big -- probably to 4 ft. You can buy them big to start, though I think they're quite pricey. They look nice and get really bushy when they're large.
What is the depth of the tray? If you want the plants to grow fairly large (I assume for a Veiled's enclosure), the tray will have to be quite deep. You could put hydro balls under the soil to help absorb some of the water and help with drainage. I only have planted enclosures for pygmies, so...
Well, being in Canada, it comes down to what's available. If I want *anything* other than a Panther or a Veiled, I have to get wc, which I have. It would be nice to have some cb options, even if the price was significantly higher.
There is some controversy regarding some of the spiral bulbs harming the eyes of chameleons. Try and stick with a 2.0 linear if you can. Also, he may feel comfortable once you put more plants in for him.
Wow! That's big writing LOL. I may be able to help, or find someone who can. Don't take them to Petland! They've killed every chameleon they've ever had in there (with the exception of the sickly ones people bought). I'm not getting your PMs. Try again please.
