Thanks for your help Solid. I was thinking that would be the next step. The gradient seems ok, but I'll try making it warmer and monitor his reactions. Maybe he's just got the winter blues and is pining for the fjords.
@Solid: He has a 60 watt bulb, white, from the hardware store. I measure his temps with a digital thermometer probe and a circular gauge. Friday I borrowed a lab-grade thermocouple reader from work and triple-checked. All 3 match up within a degree, so he's getting 87F at his closest spot on...
Ok, so it's definitely lightbulb related. He's trying like a madman for the 3rd day in a row to get into the basking dome, but he's not able to because of the screen. Could it be too cold or too hot? Why would a chameleon try endlessly to get into the basking light?
Can't make a video today, but I will be getting a camera that takes vid tonight. It's fairly violent. He's making the screen shake. It's like he thinks he's a battering ram.
I gutload my crickets with wet and dry mixes, which I always wash well because I'm paranoid about chemicals.
Dry...
He's back at it again, trying to get to his light. I can't understand the behavior as a first-timer. It's definitely warm enough for him. Anyone got any advice?
I taught my baby veiled to cup feed in a small enclosure then moved him to a bigger one and he does just fine because I bring the food to him.
Anything can be toxic in large enough amounts, but it's not as though your chameleon is going to be eating the screen. I would think that as long as...
Hi Everyone,
I'm having a bit of a weird incident right now. Up until about 8pm Tesla, my 5 month old Veiled male, was a nice pastel green and basking like he normally does before bed. About 5 minutes ago I looked over at his cage and saw him lunge from his basking spot, grab onto the top of...
I had hundreds of escapes until I took packing tape and put a line all around the inside of the tub I was keeping them in. Then I still noticed the odd cricket around every couple of days, so I made a second line of tape around the inside of the bin. I'm a month now with 0 escapes (from the bin).
Unless I've got food on offer when I open the door it's dirty looks, puffs, and nips for me from Tesla. Though to be honest I was expecting that from a veiled when I got him.
Does anyone change their shirt before they try working with their cham? I seem to have better responses from him...
From now on if you're in T.O. go here:

The vets are very good with chameleons and the prices are fair. Emergency vets in Toronto are insanely expensive. Our dog broke her leg and it cost almost 2000 at the local emergency clinic. Lucky for us there is...
It never makes sense to me why the big chains don't invest in giving out proper information for chameleons. If they did, they'd be making more money off of the sales due to upselling of products that you don't "necessarily" need for another type of reptile.
A cham needs more setup materials...
1)You still need plants and hiding places for your chameleon.
2)You need a water source that is not a bowl and not a waterfall either. It looks like you have a mister, that is good, but if there are no plants, the water will not collect anywhere for them to drink it! A dripper is also a good...
I've been wondering a bit about mushrooms. Does anyone think there is any benefit to gutloading with something like a cremini or portobello's? They seem to have pretty high amounts of folates, choline, and betaine, not to mention moisture for the crickies.
I won't comment on the feeding of females as I only have a male, but your chameleon might be drinking when you're not around. They can be shy about that kind of thing. You can feed a small hornworm every once in a while to boost hydration levels if you're really worried. If the urate (white...
VOC stands for "volatile organic components". Essentially, these are solvents used to suspend the pigment particles or urethane particles so you can paint them easily. The VOC's quickly turn into vapor when exposed to air, giving the material that powerful smell of varnish or turpentine as they...
Not for my chameleon (I only have 1 and a regular lamp timer works for him). I work in a lab and we use these badboys to control heat during production. You can also get them for humidity or anything else you feel like. Most also have ethernet connections for computer based DAQ systems and...
