Wow!! I really like the idea of creating an "Eco System" so to speak. The springtails are a nice touch that can certainly make a very big difference as they help break down the fecal matter into fertilizer for plants and eat mold.
Do you have a misting system? How much water do you put...
I think none of them are for Chams on that site. I am more of a fan of the upper portions of the cage, substrate aside, the cool plants, wall and general creativity of the design is leagues beyond what the standard cham cage looks like. Just wondering what the pit falls are, beyond the...
Yeaaahhh...thats what I'm talkin bout.
You can't discount the fact that chams have died from getting substrate stuck from a bite. However, it looks like most of the floors and general areas of the nicer frog viv's are carpeted by lush moss. Off hand, it seems like a nice non-toxic moss...
I think we've all got the potted plants with some sticks, fake vine and pothos thing down pat but if you've seen some of the nicer Arboreal Tree Frog viv's, they really put us to shame when it comes to looks and a more "exhibit" style.
Has anyone done similar stuff to the frog guys but for...
I'd say 95% of keepers on here would recommend zero substrate other than rocks or something. Judging from your setup I'd say you have had frogs in the past and want to stick with this.
I too am a fan of the planted vivarium but it doesn't always work. Seems like it is becoming a hazard in...
So he is eating the Coconut Husk not plain dirt right? I just looked at your info sheet.
Also I'm not sure if all of those plants are non-toxic and obviously he is eating some. I would definitely double check the lists that are on here as I'm far from an expert.
The reptisun 10, from what I've read is too much if inside the cage...maybe even outside the cage.
There is a heath check list here that you should definitely fill out and provide to the community. Some real experts around in all of this stuff.
I don't think MegaRay Self Ballasted Low bulbs are expensive at all. I think they list them at 46$ right??
Also they have a 1 year warranty and are said to typically still produce enough UVB all the way to 18months. Heck...even if it does start to decay you can just move the bulb closer.
If...
Agreed with the other post, you are qualified. A health cham doesn't take rock science to care for, I think its just a matter of getting the basics right and being consistent if you dont have automation (automated misting system).
When weird stuff comes up, then it gets tricky...like the...
Agreed. Certainly gets kudos for getting as far as getting the stick out and treating for mouth rot. Pretty impressive for getting back on track.
Its a shame Veiled's are so cheap...jacksons too.
Good intentions are fine for the person but certainly don't do much for a lizard. . 15 minutes on the internet and wow...chameleon dead avoidable. Due Diligence
Now i'm being an ass I know...but still
Just to be clear, by ignorant I mean the dictionary version not the I'm calling them...
There are an incredible amount of ignorant people with Chameleons...its amazing. It's like they can't read or don't know how to use the "Internets"...before they get an exotic animal.
This is interesting. I really really like the more tree like Scheffelera's as they are more suitable to a large cage and medium/large cham. How toxic are they and has anyone had a cham die from something like this?
