Donnie ate 2 grasshoppers, 2 silks, and a large hornworm yesterday. No surprise that he wasn’t interested in food today! But he did enjoy his nightly silkworm snack! His weight is really worrying me, so I am aglad he has a bit of an appetite.
His butt is pretty raw since the vets. We are...
Sorry to hear. Their inability to sex him at 1.5years old, and with an xray, would have me looking for another vet. Donnie had local anesthesia and one stitch. I dont know the process but it sounded like a quick cut/snip. But if you arent comfortable or confident in the vet, def look for a...
2 week check up - good news and bad. I was concerned a out Donnie’s weight, as over the past few days he’s looked very thin and frail (despite eating daily silkworms during meds). Typically he gains weight during these periods, but he has lost a whopping 30g since 7/28!! His diet has...
I’ve only been bitten once… And that was by accident. It’s pretty easy to read their body language when they don’t want to be messed with and might bite. All of my guys are pretty laid-back, except Clarice… Rest in peace. The one that bit me was actually just trying to overzealously chomp on a...
They dont often touch my skin - they get pretty good at judging the distance and force. When they do, its a sticky thud. BUT! Sometimes their tongue sticks to my hand, and a natural reaction is to move your hand, which can injure or even pull out their tongue. So I sometimes wet my hands...
8 days post surgery, things are slowly healing. Donnie finished his antibiotics yesterday, and still has a week of 2x daily applications of an RX antibiotic ointment. He just pooped today, without much discomfort. He’s been getting primarily silkworms for now to keep things soft and easy to...
Bacterial, I believe he said. My husband took him for the initial visit so I am relying on his notes. I didnt get to see the doc when I dropped/picked up, but will get more info at our 2 week checkup
Not sure if this is all helpful to someone in the future, but I hope so. At our vet, both procedures were appx $150/each, including meds. His follow up visits or related issues have been $27. All without insurance. Not exactly inexpensive, but affordable to me. Sharing the price as I know...
It’s been almost exactly one year since his hemipenal amputation. They only removed half at that time, and Dr. Gold warned me that Donnie would be more susceptible to issues around his vent. We did have two bouts of infection crop up, that were remedied by careful would care (silver sulf cream...
The vet just wanted to keep hydration high and watch the protein, as his counts were elevated but not at the threshold. There is medication for it but if I recall correctly it has some pros and cons to consider - like add’tl stress on kidneys. Dont quote me as it has been a few years.
For me - the closer, more convenient exotic vet personally owned chameleons and regularly treats and also rehabs reptiles.
The specialty / higher end vet did pretty extensive research on chams and literally wrote a text book (some say THE textbook) on chameleons. Dr Stahl… unfortunately his...
I believe locusts and grasshoppers are the same thing, just different terms depending on geographic area.
How large is your chameleon? I would be careful to feed appropriately sized grasshoppers if they are not large, adult chameleons. If they get too big, try to breed them but don’t feed. We...
This is Monstera Deliciosa. It is safe for an enclosure but it is, in my opinion, too large a plant for a typical enclosure. It outgrew my 2x4x6 very quickly. Give it a bamboo stick or moss pole and the leaves will mature much faster and tidier.
