This is such a fun thread! Thanks for sharing his progression with us. He has gone through most of the color wheel already! And what a great looking head he has. Stud!

Wow, reading this thread really left me scratching my head. A vet who doesn't know how to read a fecal? And it is very easy for us to send them away for testing for $50, even if you are not educated as to what type of parasite eggs to look for. Just a shocker for me. Good luck with your...
Great advice here from the senior panel here Andrew. Follow their instructions closely. I also recommend getting the light out of the aquarium ASAP. I'd put my money on your big fella having superficial burns from the bulb and the reason why he is gaping is because he is...
He has some quite unique patterns. Keep us updated on how he turns out. He is already on his way to being an impressive specimen. Some different lines out there in SA clearly. Beautiful animal.

Interesting trial study. I don't have the knowledge base on this issue to be of much use. But for my own interests sake... Are you going to try it again?

It could certainly be an URI, but since he has been seen by a vet, I'd like to give the veterinarian the benefit of the doubt in this case. Could this still be a URI and might the treatment plan need to be altered? Absolutely. Let's just hope the vet got it right, and the Gentamycin topical...
Strongly agree with Jo Jackson's main point. Do not force anything into your sick cham. Aspiration pneumonia is a fatal complication. Keep him warm, keep him low, mist away, and drop on his mouth to if he shows any interest in the bug juice remedy. Best of luck.

Gentamycin is a good broad spectrum antibiotic. If you cham is not showing any system signs of illness (down, depressed, not eating, etc), then I would follow your vets recommendation, because systemic antibiotics are not in order. To address someone else's comment: Looking at a mouth swab...
If she is still eating, drinking, behaving normally- I would just take a 'wait and see' approach. I'd like to hear from some of the big breeders here on the subject, but it is not terribly uncommon for first time breeders to lay a few premature eggs prior to the big one.
Keep us posted on her...
As a first time cham owner, DO NOT BUY THIS ANIMAL. This animal is in desperate need of veterinary care, and that will not guarantee the long term longevity of this animal. She looks very stressed, and already showing signs of moderate to severe Metabolic Bone Disease.

Well spoken- And a good lesson for the amateur chameleon breeders out there, who think, 'hey, I'll breed chameleons and sell them for extra income.' QUALITY BREEDING IS NOT EASY. DON'T TRY IT UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING!. Sorry for yelling. :)

Have you been able to get Rush sexed yet? I know it is difficult to sex Melleri, but if you find a local vet that has special interest in lizards, they might be able to ultrasound him/her and look for reproductive organs. I wish I was closer, I'd do it for free, just for my own interest sake...
