    MistPrince Misting system

I would think about black tubing in the future to avoid algae growth. But very inventive and works way better than I thought it would.

    5000k=5.0 UVB??

Keep in mind that at bulb with a 5000k rating that is not specifically a UVB bulb will not give off UVB. K is the abbreviation for Kelvin and it is a number used for the color temperature of the light being produced and not the actual spectrum of light that comes out of the bulb. UVA and UVB...

How long can you leave a Chameleon without feeding it?

I have thought about using the dog/cat feeders but when I went on vacation this summer I just ended up putting extra cups in the enclosure with food for the insects. I was gone for 5 days and he did just great and ate almost all the bugs. Just to clarify, the cups were feeding cups with food...

    Had to do something.

UVB provides the spectrum of light needed for chameleons to properly break down the needed vitamins and minerals for proper bone growth and overall health. The best type of UVB bulb to use is a tube fluorescent and not a compact(coiled) one. The other type of bulb that is needed is a simple...

How do your chams like hornworms?

My cham will take them or leave them but they grow REALLY fast as has been stated. Plus you state you are looking for a FREE supply of feeders and hornworm are not that by any means. They take a long time to turn to moths and then you are not guaranteed any fertile eggs and you have to feed...

need feedback. Has anyone ever used the ultrasonic mist maker?

This requires an open container of water to function so the only way it would work for a chameleon would be to place the open container on top of the enclosure and have the mist spill over the edges into the cage. It would do little to increase moisture for drinking purposes but would increase...

    caring for these feeders

Superworms are what Laurie said - super easy. I make my own bedding mix from rolled oats, flax, wheat germ, etc. You can get this stuff from Sprouts or any Whole Foods type store where they have the bins and you weigh it yourself. I keep them in one of these: That way I can separate by...

    Specific Questions

I have her basking between 85-87. Any lower and she tends to spend the whole day in the basking spot. I was using a 45w bulb but switched her back to a 60w because of this. I measured with a infrared temp gun. The main thing I am concerned about is how many food items to offer on a daily...

Does anyone know why chameleons are illegal in some states?

The Let me Google that for you video does not give you an answer you are looking for as to Why they require permitting just links to the fact that they do. I did some research on that a while back and could not find any evidence to the reasoning behind the original statute but I am sure it...

    Specific Questions

I am either not using the right terminology or just unlucky but I cannot find specifics on what I am looking for. In regards to Ambilobe Panther females: I have a female (hatched 12/01/09) that I intend to breed. She is currently 40 grams so has some growing to do first, but I do not want to...

For those of you with humidifiers

To reply about the cost of the PVC attachment, it was $3 for the long piece that fit in the humidifier, $1.75 for the right angle piece and $1.25 for the curved piece that fits up against the top of the cage. So total $6. I did not glue them together so that I can move it easily if need be.

For those of you with humidifiers

UVB fixture should be fine as long as condensation doesn't form on it. As far as getting the mist closer to her, I use something similar to this on my boa cage and what I did was found a piece of PVC that fit in the output hole of the humidifier and got a long enough piece to go to the top of...

    Double bulb fixture?

Unfortunately I found the same thing. The only solution I could forsee was to buy a ballast and all other items and make one myself. I just never got around to it. I ended up using the UVB tube on one cage with a 6500 daylight CF in a dome for the plant light. It puts of way more light then...

    Sucks...

I have a 5 yr old and a 3 yr old and keep two chams and a boa with very little concern about disease transmission. I make sure they wash after handling any of them, but to tell you the truth the chams don't move enough to keep their attention for long. They do love the bugs though and I have...
