The size the cage you plan to build is good for a full grown adult. You would only want to expand that size if you were planning on having a female living in the same cage. A lot of vegetation would be needed in that case (for the female to "hide from the male when desired). Otherwise, any large...
Would you please give us more info. Set up- lights-temps-furniture- etc.. Fill the "how to ask for help" questions. Maybe there is a problem we can help you identify. Chams may open their mouth and keep it open when they are over-heating. But it maybe something else,...but need more info.
Both of my Panthers are less than a year old, but I do plan to mimic the season changes for them. The temp does not change much, but the rainfall does. So i'll make it rain accordingly to madagascar's weather! :D
If his kidneys are in trouble it is very serius!
How long have you had him? Is he wild caught or captive bred?
The cage you have him in is small for a panther chameleon his age. I have two panthers One is 4 months in a 18"x18"x30" and the other is 5 1/2 month old (but large for his age) in a...

Since the day he arrived he has ignored the crikets i put in his cage to hunt.
Day one He did not eat. day two, i figured maybe the crickets were too big for him (medium crikets), so i switch them for small crickets. I...
I have 3 cages (24" x 24" x48"). The stand I use for them is the florenzia end table from wal-mart.com the table top is exactly 24" x 24". It fits perfectly, and it only costs about $119. You can have it shipped free to your nearest wal-mart.
I can relate to you. One of my panther chameleons loves the 6500 k T5 bulb for the plants. I do have a basking light and the UVA/UVB light. Yet he likes being under the 6500 k light.
That's unfurtunate... i have a dual T5 fixture on top of one of my cages. the fixture's purpose is for plant growth,... but since it carries 2 bulbs, i figured maybe i can eliminate the T8 with the reptisun 5.0, and add the equivalent to the T5 fixture.
Does anyone know of a decent T5 bulb...
