SYSTEMATICS AND SIGNALLING OF MADAGASCAN CHAMELEONS OF THE CALUMMA NASUTUM GROUP…

“In this dissertation I evaluate, based on a taxonomic revision of Calumma nasutum group, the significance of mitochondrial lineages for species delimitation and promote micro- computed tomography (micro-CT) as an additional tool for integrative taxonomy. The second part deals with the discovery...

Features of topography and macroscopic structure of the digestive organs of the Yemeni chameleon (Chamaeleo calyptratus)…

I was surprised to find the article. Sometimes it’s just a matter of using different odd words for my searches.

    Chameleons and Chitin

I know who put this theory forward originally…it was Petr Necas. It wouldn’t surprise me that it would help to push soft caterpillars through the chameleon’s digestive system…but IMHO it wouldn’t explain why the females devour it like crazy when they are gravid. A “search” for nutrients needed...

    Chameleons and Chitin

You said…”Even Veiled Chameleons tend to do it to push caterpillars down their digestive system instead of actually digesting the plant matter”…I don’t think this has ever been proven but is just a theory. Do you know of any studies that have proven it? I’m looking for an explanation as to why...

    Chameleons and Chitin

You said…If the chameleons “depend on bacteria, we will see that antibiotics would significantly damage their digestive system for lengths of time, specifically, a chameleon’s ability to break down the chitin in their food”…this is very interesting! In your second link…it says…”Alpha and beta...

    Advice needed 🙏

Don’t forget…I’m not a vet so I can’t be sure this is what happens…so keep an eye on things and find a good chameleon vet if he doesn’t appear to be recovering. You don’t want him to continue to decline and ignore something that needs attention.

    Chameleons and Chitin

In my previous post I meant cellulase. (Darned auto correct.)

    Advice needed 🙏

I’m not a vet and can only speak from what I’ve learned over many years of keeping chameleons and many other reptiles. If the parasite load is heavy, killing off all the worms at once, can create too much “garbage” (dead worms; eggs) that the chameleon’s system has to get rid of. It can be too...

    Chameleons and Chitin

You make me work…reading all these studies…but it’s interesting stuff! Thanks for posting! So…now I have a question for you…do chameleons have cellulose in their digestive system? Do they get any from their insect diet that they can use to digest cellulose in their digestive system?

    Advice needed 🙏

How heavy was the parasite load? What was the parasite? What medication was used to treat it. Can you post a couple more photos of him please…showing all of him?
