Thanks!
Do the long-taileds do better in groups, or does that matter? Is there a way to sex them easily? Are they very likely to breed if a male and female are housed together? (I am anticipating questions I'll be asked when I tell customers they can keep multiple long-tailed lizards...
I thought of more questions about aquatic turtles. What do you recommend for their diet breakdown? I know they eat turtle food, fish, fruits, veggies, some worms, etc. I just don't know how much and how frequently all of that should be offered. Is the pellet turtle food a good staple diet? Are...
Lol thanks guys. Here are the specific questions I can think of about turtles and tortoises:
-What are the proper basking and water temps for aquatic turtles?
-Proper temps for Russian tortoises?
-Are there any specific fruits/veggies/other foods that should be avoided?
-What are the...
Mealworms have a hard outer shell that is hard for chams to digest, so too many of them can cause impaction. They also don't really have much nutritional value. Usually you can't find silkworms or hornworms in stores, but it's cheaper to order online anyway. I recommend ordering from Small Pet...
There is really no way of knowing when she'll start developing eggs. It's a combination of factors, including her temperatures, food intake, and genetics. Here's a great blog about the whole egg-laying process: https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/jannb/345-egg-laying-laying-bin.html

Hm, that is strange... I would try giving him a multivitamin if he hasn't had that before. I supplement all my reptiles with a multivitamin once a month. Herptivite is a good choice.
I don't necessary know if that will help, but either way, it's good for him.
One more bit of advice -...
I think you should consider what other factors might be making your chams brighten up along with the plant change, but at the same time, I do think they can sense a difference between real and fake foliage (at least to some extent).
Welcome to the forums, btw. That's a nice looking girl you've got there. :)
Your husbandry sounds pretty good overall. I do suggest that you use calcium more frequently though. Most forum members seem to agree that calcium without D3 should be used every day, calcium with D3 should be used...
No, that's definitely a female. I see what looks like a spur in the second picture, but I'm pretty sure it's just the other side of her foot. She has female coloration and her casque isn't as tall as a male's.
Yeah, I am planning on getting another plant soon. I hope that will help. He's been free ranging the entire time I've had him, which has been about 2 weeks.
I agree. I think it's a stretch to believe chams can entirely self-regulate their UVB or heat intake sufficiently. But I believe they are more capable of self-regulating heat than UVB. I know that are less sensitive on their underside and I know that burns happen, but I just don't see it...
Yeah, that's true that they don't bask all day in the wild. I guess it just concerns me because it seems like he's never under his UVB. But I'm sure he at least stays under it for a little while after he eats - I hope so anyway. I usually have to head to school shortly after I feed him so I...
Yeah, that's a good idea. I agree that a whole room ought to be plenty of space to free range multiple chams. (Jannb is a perfect example.) I wish I had that option, but I definitely don't think it would be a good idea for me to put two chams in my closet. I think I need to just put the cat in a...
Ok, I got my newest cham about 2 weeks ago. For the most part, everything seems to be going well. He has adjusted well to cup feeding and he seems quite content with his surroundings. He doesn't like sudden movements (like most chams, I'm sure), but he will climb right onto my hand as long as I...
He's gorgeous! I found this by seeing your updated sig and searching for a "New Cham" post from you. I agree, btw, that we should have a "New Cham" section.
Sorry to hear about Darwin, but I'm sure he'll get better soon. :) Are you still free ranging him? Out of curiosity, how will you be you...
I agree that the box probably was flipped a lot in travel, but that still doesn't make it ok for the delivery guy to flip it more than it had to be. And the fact that he laughed at you for being mad is the worst part. If I were you, I would definitely report that to Fedex. Regardless of how the...
You setup looks nice. I'm sure he loves all that foliage. :) I do have one question - is that a glass terrarium? It sort of looks like an aquarium from the picture, but it's hard to tell for sure. Terrariums with proper ventilation are fine for chameleons, but an aquarium is not a good idea due...
